The Unexpected Visitor

Momo sits wondering to herself about Kita.

“I think I will take a trip down to the Maggots Nest and speak with Kita myself; maybe I can get some of the questions in my head answered?”

Momo begins walking toward the Maggots Nest.

Renji, having finished all of his assignments from the captain, immediately jumped at the chance to go and check on Kita. After all, he didn't know of anyone else that was making sure she didn't go insane locked up in that hell house known as the Maggot's Nest. As he reached the beginning of the forest where the hellish prison was kept, deep in its heart, he spotted another soul reaper standing at its edge. Surprised and confused, he rushed forward to see it was his fellow lieutenant, Momo Hinamori.

"Lieutenant Hinamori?! What are you doing all the way out here?!"

“Hey Renji. I was just going down to see Kita. I have a few things that are bugging me about this whole situation. I thought I could get to the bottom of some of it if I saw her myself. What are you doing out here?”

"Making sure she doesn't lose it while they're keeping her locked up here. No one else seems to care what happens to her, but I do." He looked down at the young lieutenant. "But, were you really planning on going in there by yourself? Sure, you're the best at Kido, but there's some pretty crazy people in there. How about we go in together?"

“That sounds fine to me. It may not have been such a good idea to go in by myself after all.”

The pair begin walking deeper into the forest together.

Together, the two lieutenants made their way through the shadowy forest until the metal door appeared, surrounded by shadows and trees. No matter how many times Renji came here, he never got used to it. He hated it that they kept Kita in an awful place like this. He sighed and approached the two guards standing on either side of the door.

"Lieutenants Abarai and Hinamori," Renji said to the guards. "We're here to speak to the seraph."

The guards bowed and stepped aside, one of them opening the heavy metal door. The two lieutenants walked inside and made their way to Kita's cell on the lowest floor of the prison.

It was hours before her execution as Kita lay on her cot. She wondered if the soul reapers would be foolish enough to try and put her to death. She knew well enough that they knew or at least it was common knowledge that destroying a God would bring the wrath of the other down on them. She sighed laying there her mind drifted back to the time Toshiro took her to the cave to keep her from both Aizen and the Soul Society.

“I should have followed him in his beliefs. He knew more than I did it seems.”

Hearing a noise and the sound of footsteps she looked toward the corner of her cell to see if anyone would appear. A few second later she saw Renji with another. She was short with dark hair pulled up into a bun on the back of her head.

“Renji, what are you doing here?” Kita asked not getting up from where she lay.

"Here to check on you, what else?" He nodded his head to Momo. "She wanted to ask you some questions. Feel up to it?"

Kita nodded as she pushed herself up slowly on her cot. “I don’t know what I could help you with, but I will do my best Miss--” Kita looked at her waiting for her to reply.

“Hello Miss Kita. How are you feeling; not well I assume?” Momo looked at the girl, in shock for she was not in good shape.

“I was hoping you could help me answer the questions I have nagging at me.”

Momo thought to herself for a minute.

“Kita, you have spent a fair amount of time with Aizen, correct?”

Kita chuckled softly as she situated herself on the cot. “You must be Lieutenant Hinamori. Aizen’s former second in command.” She looked to Renji and smiled. “Nice parting gift to bring me.”

Renji scratched the back of his head. "Well, we kind of ran into each other and she seemed intent on asking you. So..."

Kita smiled warmly at them both and nodded. “I thought I might be seeing you Lieutenant Hinamori. This is going to take some time.” She looked to her guard. “And some things, some people don’t need to know.”

Momo turned to Kita’s guard and said, “Can you please leave us to our conversation? I need to speak with her in private.”

The guard turned to Momo and glared at her as if saying, who do you think you are and where do you get off telling me to leave?

Renji turned and glared at the guard. "The lieutenant gave you an order. And you're going to disobey? I doubt your superiors will approve of your behavior."

The guard nods and walks down the corridor a ways to give them some privacy. Momo looks to Renji, “Thank you Renji. He did not look like he was taking me seriously and I know they have seen you around here quite often.”

Momo turns back to Kita, “So you are willing to share what you know with me then, thank you for your time, Miss Kita.”

“Your welcome. It is not like Aizen is going to be able to punish me for it. I will be dead in a few more hours.” She chuckled lightly trying to make light of the situation.

“Where do you want me to start?”

“Well, I have been thinking to myself trying to figure out why Aizen left the Soul Society to begin with, I mean why would he have turned his back on all of his comrades like that; and also what is his interest in you.” Momo looks at Kita, not sure if she may have gone too far already.

“Aizen is Hell bent on filling what he believes to be a void in the Godly realm. He wants to take over and rule the realms. He wants complete and utter domination over us all. As for why he wants me.” Kita sighed. “I could have gotten him to that point if he had not done what he did to control me.”

“Why and how did he control you, Kita?” Momo looked at Kita, both concerned for Kita and worried that Aizen has further plans to ruin the balance between the realms.

Kita lowered her head her hands folded in her lap her mind drifting back to one memory she wished she would have forgotten.

“When I was brought to Las Noches, Aizen tried to remove my Seraph soul from the human girl, Kita’s body. He failed in doing so and killed the girl. This released my Seraph soul. Aizen--because of the Hogyoku-- he was able to trap the young girl Kita’s soul and my own and place it in the shell of an arrancar’s body. This body was foreign to my Seraph’s form and because of the information I held, my memories were locked never to be released.”

She looked up at them both, tears forming in her eyes. “Aizen was not aware this would happen. I didn’t even know this would happen. I have never be found before by the likes of a man like Aizen.”

"Yet another life that bastard has ruined. He's poison to everything and everyone he touches," Renji grinded his teeth in anger. "I didn't understand how the academy could even let a person like him become a soul reaper. Then again, he had everyone fooled, so why not."
“I can’t stand by and let him continue his path of destruction.” Momo looks down at the floor. “I was fooled once, but now things have changed. Kita, I never knew the truth about how you and Aizen were brought together. Is there any way we can help you? I know Renji is not comfortable with what is going on here, and I am not either.” Momo knows that by doing anything now would be going against orders, but still...

Momo looks to Kita and back to Renji, not sure if anything can be done at all.

“Don’t risk your life for me. Tsukiro has already done that. He was banished, his life ruined because of me. I don’t want to see another life ruined.” Kita lowered her head again then looked back up to them.

“Please just do me this one favor?”

"Not a chance. I'm not going to let them do this to you. I'll find a way to stop this. I won't let you give up on yourself."

Kita looked to Renji with wide eyes about to speak up as Momo started before her.

Momo looked to Renji, surprised that he had just said what he did.

“Kita, if there is a way to stop what is happening here, I want to help. What one favor were you going to ask for?”

“I know it will be your duty to protect and defend the Soul Society with your life, but in doing so when the Gods come you will be killed. Do not stand against them. You will not win and only lose your life. Please, do not risk your life for the foolish decision your peers have made in destroying me.”

“Tsukiro may not have been able to keep his promise to you, but I swear to you I'll get you out of here. They can't treat you like this when you've done nothing wrong!" Renji clenched his fists together. "That idiot both betrayed the soul society and got banished trying to save you, but I'm not stupid enough to let that happen to me! I'll get you out of here, and I'll do it in a way where the 46 and the head captain can't do shit about it!"

Momo stepped back in astonishment, “Renji, can you really do something like that? And even if you could do it, what would become of Kita. Wouldn’t Aizen just take her again the first chance he gets?” Momo looked worried again.

Renji turned to Momo with fire in his eyes. "I can damn sure try. And Kita has more friends in the Soul Society than just me. We can protect her. Against Aizen, true we might have trouble, but it would be shameful for us to call ourselves her friends if we don't even try!"

Kita stood slowly from her cot wavering slightly her legs shaking as she took a small step forward. “Renji, even if you do manage to break me free of this. I will be dead soon enough anyway. I have to be with my Master to live on in this realm or any realm. Without me being at his side I will die.”

She took another small step forward. “Please don’t risk it, Renji. I am not worth your life. I will be reborn. You can not get your life back.”

Renji stepped forward and grabbed the bars. "To bad, I'm going to anyway. And knowing Kisuke, he'll have the bond broken by the time I can get you out of here."

“Renji!” Kita growled with as much force that it would allow her. “Stop being so bullheaded and listen to me.” She took hold of the bars to give her support as she stepped forward once more. “I will be back. As long as Toshiro remains the Guardian I will be back.”

“Toshiro, the Guardian?” Momo looked shocked by what she had just learned. “And how will he be able to bring you back, Kita?” She looked at Renji, still curious about how he would go about getting Kita out in the first place but did not say anything about it.

“Toshiro is the Guardian of Heaven. I am his Seraph. We were created to work together, never to be separated. Momo. Your friend is not who you think he is at the moment so be careful if you come into contact with him.”

She rested her hand around Renji’s as he gripped the bars of her cell. “Promise me Renji. Promise me you won’t do something that will destroy your life?”

Renji grinned at her. "Of course not. But just know that we both still have a lot of our lives to live. You'll be fine, you hear me?"

Momo nodded. We will not do anything reckless, or at least I won’t; but I just can’t accept what is going on here. There has got to be another way to save you and keep you from Aizen as well. Even with your friends here in the Soul Society, we will not be able to stop him if he comes here for you.” Momo sits on Kita’s cot feeling completely defeated.

"Then we'll just have to try," Renji said. "That's the only thing we can do."

“Renji, I wish I knew where you get all your confidence from?” Momo just sits there.

Kita giggled softly. “It’s all that red hair.”

"Hey! You only wish you had this hair!" Renji smirked and straightened his ponytail.

Kita smiled then fell forward into Renji catching herself by grabbing at his kimono. “I don’t know if I am going to make it.”

Momo rushed forward, “Are you okay Kita? What’s wrong?” Momo looks at Kita deeply concerned. “Are we pushing you too hard by being here?”

Renji quickly caught her and laid her down on the cot. "Easy now. Just hang in there. I'm sure Kisuke is doing the best he can."

Kita looked up at Renji and smiled. “I hope your right. It has been two weeks. I have never been away from my Master more than a week.” She giggled softly once more. “You know… Dying hurts.”

“That’s not funny, Kita.” Momo walks back and forth in front of the cell bars. “ I really hope you are right and Kisuke is getting close to a solution to the problem. I don’t want to watch this poor girl die for the sake of stopping Aizen, and I don’t think I could live with myself if we stop the execution and she dies anyway…”

“Stop worrying about me and worry about yourself. Between Aizen coming here and the Gods. You will have enough to worry about without adding me to it.” Kita’s smile faded. “I need to get some rest or I wont be able to walk when they come for me.”

Renji sighed. "I hate to say it, but she's right. She needs to take it easy. We'll come and check on you again if we can. We should go, Momo."

Kita nodded as she watched the two exit her cell closing the door behind them. Her eyes never left them until they disappeared behind the wall. Again she was alone left to her thoughts.

“Aizen. Your a demon. How could you hurt someone like her.” Her eyes fluttered shut and before she knew she was asleep.
