Internships, Jobs, and Vacations, Oh My!

aka i'm currently living 4 weeks of heck which has made up for my mostly incredibly dull summer

also aka: does anyone actually care?

Heeeey guys! It's been a while since I've posted, huh? ;o; Just gonna pop in a little life update (more like a summary of what I've been up to this summer) because wHY NOT

This summer has been weird. Almost four months is way too long of a break. And I haven't been very productive either auuuuuugh.

When I first got home from school, I was in a whirlwind of excitement, friendship, and even a hint of -gasp!- romance! But then May turned into June and HAHAHAHA I SAT AROUND MY HOUSE FOR MOST OF THE MONTH WATCHING ANIME LIKE A REAL COOL KID.

I tried to search for employment, but my efforts were futile. like literally every place i applied was like "LOL WE'RE NOT HIRING ANY MORE CONGRATS" And then I went through this summertime depression funk where I was jealous of all the cool things that other people were doing and I was just like "i'm literally sitting here on my butt, not contributing anything to society nor furthering my own life experiences GO ME. " and that misery lasted for about three weeks. :|

But I snapped out of that once my internship came! I got to do an archaeology internship for a week and it was a lot of fun! One highlight was that I got to excavate a tomb in a cemetery (the covering box, not t he actual tomb, in case you're wondering-- I DID NOT ACTUALLY DISTURB ANY DEAD BODIES) Basically the story is that it's a mid-19th century cemetery that got damaged by a tree uprooting, and now someone wants it restored, so they're trying to map out what it probably originally looked like, as well as trying to find all the missing pieces of a pesky tombstone. I also got to do some work at the main site, which is a huuuuge plantation that completely burned down in the early 1900s. I also got to do some land tracing work in the clerk's office, which wasn't as exciting, but it was certainly interesting! I found some interesting/humorous deed and will transfers.

I AM LIEK TOTES OFFISHULLY AN ARKYOLOGIST, THO. I got to boss around boy scouts and high school students on how to do things, so yah i'm p legit, fyi. swag

Thanks to this internship though, I'm actually kind of taking on a personal project that involves finding a certain pottery kiln from the mid 1800s in my area! I met a guy who grew up in my hometown (which was weird because my town has a population of like 5000 people at most) and he was telling me all about it and how no one knows where it's located, and i'm like I WILL CRACK THIS CASE, so I'm actually going to the courthouse tomorrow to search through records to see if i can find anything! ;A; The website says they have records going back to the 1700s, so there's A CHANCE, although most of the deed books from the time period burned up, I believe, so that might make it a bit more difficult...

(If anyone's actually interested in hearing more about this stuff, feel free to ask in the comments or shoot me a PM or something because otherwise I don't want to bore you all any further ha-)

After my internship, I had a nice 3 hour drive back home by myself, packed up some extra stuff, and headed to my FIRST TECHNICALLY OFFICIAL JOB as a camp counselor for a horse camp out in the middle of nowhere. Children are interesting individuals, is all I can really say about that. Also I don't know like anything about horses, ironically. I got to bathe in a river all week. FUN STUFF.

Anddddd, this week I'm home, attempting to catch a break. Next week I'm off to the beach, though! I think I'm driving most of the way there too, so that'll be an experience. After that, though, my summer is p much done and i'll probably start sorting and packing through stuff for this coming semester/year IN WHICH I SHALL BE ROOMING WITH THE LOVELY AKIOH WHUDDUP GURLFREN.

And... now I must gear up, for I have plans tonight. Bye, everyone!
