Ok guys, I came up with this idea that some people are born with natural shields against psychic/metaphysical attacks. They might not know about it, and the shields would be breakable by a strong enough attack. but even if it gets through, it wouldn't be as effective. I sorta mentioned this in my intro, so i hope you guys don't mind.
