Szayel's New Experiment (part 1)
I didn’t understand this…something was showing me the way out of my world…out of the dark. I hadn’t seen it in so long, I almost forgot the word for it.
Almost.
I pulled at the word in my mind, tried to force myself to remember. Suddenly it shone in mind. The word was “light”. It showed the way to the end of the dark, and one thing I was sure of: I was being created once more, but as something more powerful, less human. An Arrancar.
The light burned my eyes, but I got used to it. Glancing around, I was in a white, modern room. But what was modern? I had been in the dark so long I couldn’t remember. A clock down the hall stated the 21st century. Smiling, I thought happily, What a wonderful era to be born again in! Glancing down I saw that I was naked, but I knew I would be clothed soon. A deep man’s voice spoke.
“Welcome, new Arrancar. Can you tell us your name?” He had dark brown wavy hair and soft brown eyes. He was smiling, as if he knew how I felt. But the happiness I felt, well, there was no way he could understand.
I thought for a moment. In the dark we didn’t need names. We were just there. Thinking back to earlier times, I pulled out my name and spoke, loving the way the sound rolled out my throat and down my tongue. “My name is Sol.”
The man smiled again. “I am Lord Aizen. This is Gin,” He motioned to a silver-haired man on his right. Gin’s eyes were closed and he had a fake smile plastered on his face. “And this is Tosen.” A darker colored man stood on his right with glasses. His dark purple hair was in braids which collected in a ponytail. Tosen nodded.
“I shall get her clothes and take her to do her…job.” Tosen bowed to Lord Aizen and grabbed me by the wrist. Only now did I notice that ten other people were gathered around the room. My eyes widened when I was hit with a spiritual pressure so strong I flinched. Suddenly the power was overwhelming, and I had to get out of that room because I was starting to feel nauseous. As Tosen led me out I felt relieved, the tremendous power lightened and I sighed. I watched as one of the figures in the room left out another entrance and gasped. Tosen stared at me.
“Did you say something, girl?” I stared and shook my head as he spoke with a harsh tone. “Good.”
The halls were as large as the room we had been in. They were almost intimidating. I walked through the halls with Tosen, barely aware of my nakedness. After countless turns for what seemed like an hour, we arrived at a hallway with a huge amount of doors right next to each other. At the end of the path a door that looked exactly like all of the others stood, showing no sign of being unique. Tosen took a black key out of his pocket and unlocked the door with a loud ker-chunk. Inside a girl with greenish-black hair and purple-gray eyes sat, reading a book. Oversized sleeves held the book and a Hollow mask shaped like a strange hairpiece was on her head. She looked up with little surprise at us.
“Sun-Sun. Sol will be needing a few of your clothes.” Tosen stated blatantly, walking over to a small closet and rummaging through its contents. I smiled modestly at her, but she only went back to reading. Tosen came back over and shoved an armful of clothes at me. “Change. Then go to the first corridor and find room eight.” He then left. I was left to change in Sun-Sun’s presence. I now wore a white short sleeved shirt with only one button just below my chest. A black elbow length top was underneath along with the same poofy pants as everyone else. As I walked out the door the shoes clacked on the hard floors. I began wandering the halls.
I walked and walked, but there was no way I could find the first corridor. Every time I tried to talk someone to ask, they ignored me or yelled things like: “Find your own way!” or “Why should I help you?!” So I continued on my way. Finally, at last, a pink-haired man stood leaning against the wall, smirking at me. His spiritual pressure was just like the ones in the room, choking me, clouding my senses. But his wasn’t nearly as bad as all ten of them were.
“Need some help?” he smiled slyly. “Where are you going?”
I tried to remember. “First corridor, eighth room.” I sighed, expecting the same reply from the others.
“Ah, of course. That would be my lab. Come…” he stared at me like he was waiting.
“Sol.” I said, smiling at my name. “I’m Sol.”
“Oh, I remember now. Come, Sol.” He put his hand on my back, sending shivers up my spine. He must have noticed, because he took his hand away. After a few twists and turns, we arrived at a twelve-foot-tall door with a fancy number “8” in black on it. The man placed his hand on the door and I heard the sound of gears. The door opened, releasing the smell of sulfur. I gagged, but still followed. There was a lab with chemicals everywhere, and papers scattering every surface. It was dark except for computer screens and flashing bulbs in every color.
“This is my lab. Take a seat here,” he had me sit on a cold metal bench, asking questions like height, weight, and if I was allergic to anything. I answered and sat there nervously, shifting in my seat. Finally he went to a desk and took out a syringe with a long, pointed needle. “Hold out your wrist.” He demanded, and I realized what he was doing.
“No.” I stated.
“Excuse me?” he looked shocked.
“I won’t be your little lab rat. No.”
He glared and grabbed my arm viciously. His power flared and I couldn’t pull away. He dropped the syringe and grabbed a different one filled with an oozy purple liquid. The needle pierced my skin and I felt the hot liquid flow through my veins. I was being given a tranquilizer, and I quickly fell asleep.
I awoke a little later to hear the man’s voice and Aizen’s. I was still groggy so I could only make out part of the conversation. The pink-haired man started.
“—defective. Disobeyed my commands.”
“What should I do? She’s yours now.”
“Lord Aizen! She disobeyed me! She’s not supposed to--”
“I don’t care. Make her your fraccion or something.”
“I was going to, but she won’t let me give her the serum!”
“Well, make her one anyway without it. That’s my final say.” Aizen walked out of the room.
“Yes, Lord Aizen…” The man grumbled and picked me up. I fell back asleep in his arms. Then suddenly we were back at the lab. He put me on the table, muttering, “Me, it’s always me!” I ignored it and opened my eyes. He glanced at me. “You’re awake so soon after my tranquilizer? Huh.” Grabbing the original syringe from before, he reached for my arm again but I pulled away. “Are you ready to cooperate?” he asked, crossing his arms. I shook my head because I was still hazy. “Fine.” He put away the syringe and sat on a stool next to the table I was on. “You’re much more trouble than my other fraccion.” He used his hand to move some hair out of my face. “What strange yellow eyes.” He stated, then got up and resumed what I guessed was lab tests. I fell asleep for the last time that day, relieved that he wasn’t going to make me his lab rat—yet.
