Chapter 20: Dinner

Elena
"How dressed up are you getting?" I asked Alexa as I sorted through the clothes hanging in my closet. Knowing Noel, it wouldn't be too formal, but I liked the idea of getting dressed up a little.

Alexa, who was sitting in her chair reading, glanced up from her book. Placing her bookmark to mark her page, she set the book down where she was sitting as she stood up and strolled over to my closet. "Let me pick out your outfit for you," she told me as she got to work looking at everything I had.

You need to look pretty without looking like you tried too hard, Eevie told me.

Easier said than done! I told her. This wasn't a date or anything, so I shouldn't be nervous, but I had butterflies in my stomach.

I watched as Alexa grabbed a few shirts out of my closet and threw them at me. Then she started rummaging through my dresser drawers and took out a pair of shorts. Finally, she rummaged through my shoes on my closet floor before picking one out and throwing them at my feet. "Wear that. You'll look nice without trying too hard. Leave your hair down and keep it how you do it with the usual curls, and you'll be all set. Maybe add some necklaces to finish the effect."

"Wow, thanks," I replied as I looked at everything she had given me.

"I have three sisters, they taught me a thing or two about fashion," she shrugged as she went over to her closet and pulled out something to change into.

Taking all my clothes off, I changed into the outfit Alexa had put together for me. When I was finished, I went and looked in the full length mirror we had on the back of our door. She had given me a pair of my brown dressy short shorts with a chain belt and a light blue tank top with a white, lacy, three quarter sleeve cardigan to go over it. She had given me a pair of grey ankle boots.

"This was definitely a good choice," I told her before grabbing my curling iron and setting to work on dealing with my hair.

Wow, your roommate did a great job picking all that out. You look really good, Eevie complimented. But I call dibs on picking your outfit when you and Noel go out on a real date.

I have a feeling if it was up to you, I'd wear the least amount of clothes possible, I commented with a grin. Lucky for me, I don't own anything too scandalous.

Then I will have to do the shopping before we go out, won't I? She had a hint of a smile to her voice, and I went back to concentrating on my hair.

"There, I'm all set now," Alexa declared as she went to the mirror and inspected her outfit. She was wearing pink skinny jeans with a white peasant top with blue chucks. She had braided her hair to the side and tied it off with a pink ribbon. She wore a black beret. Her make-up was subtle because her big, rimmed glasses were the main focus of her face. She was so cute, I was jealous for a moment.

"That outfit really becomes you," I told her.

"Thanks. All my clothes are second hand, but my sisters had good taste, so I didn't mind much. I wanted to be a designer for a long time," she replied as she went to grab her purse to make sure she had everything in it.

"You're lucky," I commented as I also pulled out my purse from my closet.

A knock on the door interrupted the momentary quiet. Smiling at Alexa, I went to open the door knowing Noel would be on the other side. I wasn't also expecting Austin. "Hi," I greeted them, eyeing Austin suspiciously.

Noel caught me giving Austin a sideways glance and gave me a look that said everything was okay. I turned to Alexa, "Ready?"

She nodded as she slung her purse over her shoulder and followed me out of our room, locking the door behind us. "Thanks, Noel, for taking us out. You really didn't need to do so." I nodded in agreement.

"I-I didn't mind," Noel assured us. "I h-hope it's okay that Austin comes along."

Alexa and I exchanged a glance. "That is fine with us," I spoke for the two of us. If Noel was okay with him coming, then we would be, too.

"I don't mean to impose, but Noel said it was okay," Austin told us.

"It's fine," I nodded. "As long as there aren't anymore instances like earlier."

Everyone seemed to stiffen at that. I had been way more blunt than I had meant to be. How rude of me to say something like that!

Wow, good for you saying that. Way to let him know exactly where you stand at the moment. Now don't you dare apologize and just keep walking. Eevie ordered.

I did what she said, though I still felt bad for how the sentence had come out. Everyone followed behind me as we headed out to the parking lot.

"Ya, sorry about earlier. Things got a little out of hand," Austin admitted. He did look sorry, and that meant I could probably forgive him.

See, nothing bad came of you speaking your mind. Good job.

Eevie
I was proud of Elena for speaking her mind, and I wondered if that was really her or if my personality was already starting to rub off on her. It was a bit early for that to start happening, yet, so I figured it was probably a case of the placebo effect. She knew she could fall back and say it was me and that gave her some added confidence. But I was okay with that if that helped her to realize her true potential. She could be fierce.

As Noel drove everyone to the restaurant they had all settled on, I got excited for them all to be going on a double date. I wasn't sure they all saw it as such, but it kind of was. It reminded me of when my human love, Rhys, liked to take me out on a date. The coffee shops were my favorite where we could really talk. But I also enjoyed the picnics in the park.

The nostalgia was a little overwhelming, and I could feel tears building, but I blinked them back. I wasn't about to ruin Elena's night with Noel. She was looking forward to tonight, and she had every right to. It looked to be pretty fun and eventful.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The girls on one side and the boys on the other. The ordered drinks and made small talk before the waitress came back with the drinks and took their food orders. I wasn't paying too much attention because I was lost in my own little dream world as I remembered all the places Rhys has taken me.

Suddenly, I sensed something coming from the back. Elena, excuse yourself to the bathroom. There's a demon nearby. I told her.

Ugh, now? she complained to me before she and Noel said at the same time, "I'm going to go to the bathroom." To which everyone laughed.

"Did you two plan that?" Austin joked.

"What great timing!" Alexa laughed.

Elena chuckled nervously as she stood up, ignoring laughter. "I'll be back soon."

"M-Me, too," Noel replied and the two made their way towards the hallway that led to the bathrooms on one side of the hallway and the door to the alleyway at the end of the hall.

"You sensed the demon, too, huh?" Elena asked Noel as they weaved their way through the tables and into the hallway before stopping between the doors of their respective bathrooms.

"N-Nori did, yes."

"We can't very well change switch in the middle of the restaurant now, can we?" Elena said. "And you can't do another partial switch right now."

"A-as long as the demon is out of s-sight, Nori should be able to switch fully. He can teleport, so if someone comes, he can get out of the way with plenty of time. Do you have a bandanna or something that can cover Eevie's horns?"

"Good thinking," Elena looked around and finally went back out and snuck a roll of silverware off the nearest table. Unwinding the cloth from the silverware, she held it out. "The best we can do."

We quickly switched so I was back in control. I took the cloth I was now clutching and tied it onto my head so that my horns were covered. It hid my ears as well. My eyes would be a bit conspicuous, but I could keep my head down, and I'd be fine. Nori and Noel switched as well, and before I knew it, Nori was standing before me.

"You better not pass out again. This is an important night for our humans. Let me do the bulk of the attacks tonight. I can sense how weak you are. You haven't even regrouped yourself since this afternoon,"I scoffed at him.

"Is that how you'd talk to me after so much time apart?" Nori asked dramatically.

I rolled my eyes as I put my pointer finger under his chin to make him really look at me. I leaned in as though to kiss him, my breasts resting against his chest. With a breathy whisper, I asked, "Would you prefer I great you like this?"

"Y-yes," he replied, closing his eyes for a moment.

I bit the air in front of him. "Maybe when there isn't a demon lurking out the back door." With that, I pushed him into the wall playfully before I turned and headed out the door, in the direction of the demon. It was just a raccoon demon digging through the dumpster for food.

Do we have to kill it? It isn't harming anyone, and it's rather cute, Elena commented.

I was rather disappointed this was all that was out here, but I was also relieved that Nori wouldn't have to fight anything and could conserve his and Noel's energy. Nori came out behind me, and seeing the demon, he waved his hand at me. "Go ahead and use your power to kill it. This was a waste of time. Damn," he smiled. "I was hoping for a challenge."

I concentrated on the raccoon and crushed every bone in its body for a quick, painless death. It didn't even have time to cry out. It had to be done, Elena. If I had let it go, it could attack a human later, and I will not have that on my hands. "You had enough of a challenge today."

"That was nothing," he smiled, playing it off.

The door opened and an employee came out to light a cigarette. Nori quickly teleported away, to where, I wasn't sure. But I was caught red handed, the employee looked at me cautiously before moving down the steps and down the alleyway, glancing back at me.

I kept my head down and made my way back inside. I found Nori waiting for me in the hallway. "That was close," he replied.

Nodding, I let Elena take control of my body again. I didn't want to risk getting caught again, and Austin and Alexa would be waiting for us to come back. Nori switched with Noel, and together, the two made their way back to the table. But before they got to the table, Noel reached out and plucked the bandanna off of Elena's head, exchanging an appreciative smile as they sat down.
