I rocked back and forth on the edge of Eternity's claimed bed as I waited for the Digit in question. Oh gosh, what was taking her so long?! Thousands of questions, possibilities, and theories crossed my mind--none of which were very positive.
On the verge of going insane, I jumped at the sound of the door opening and someone entering the room. Turning around, I was relieved to find that it was just Fox, who gazed at me with concerned golden eyes. The ghost of a smirk played at the corner of his lips, and I couldn't help but smiling in response to his arrival.
"What's up, Ayre-bear?" he asked casually, plopping down on the bed across from the one I was perched on. The plush comforters became ruffled and bunched up underneath me as I shifted my position, crossing and uncrossing my legs for the umpteenth time.
"Nothing much," I replied, matching his indifferent tone. I leaned my weight back on my arms and looked up at the ceiling, which was a reflective mirror that I hadn't noticed before. Because it wasn't creepy at all looking at your reflection while sleeping...
"Where's Eternity?" There was something different in his voice with this inquiry, and I had a sinking feeling that he knew where I had sent her, and why...
Feigning aloofness, I shrugged my shoulders and responded in a detached manner, hoping I wasn't giving myself away, "Wherever she wishes to be, I suppose."
He rolled his eyes and averted his attention upwards, meeting my dark-eyed stare with his own in the mirrors. I quickly fixed my eyes on the floor; could he see something in those endless black pits? Something that gave myself away?
With a resigned sigh, Fox rose and retreated towards the exit of the room. Obviously he wasn't going to get anything out of me, but I was slightly curious as to where he was going to go now. If he found Eternity... She would not hesitate to inform him of where she had been, now would she? Oh gosh, I had to prevent that meeting from ever happening!
Dashing out the door to the suite, I simultaneously smoothed down my clothes on my way to the elevator. After I boarded the elevator, I tapped my foot nervously in time with the generic music that blared through the speakers. The suite had to be on the very top floor, didn't it?!
After a few excruciatingly endless moments, I reached the lobby and walked out of the hotel, just to see Eternity skipping towards me cheerfully. I placed a hand to my chest in relief and exhaled. It felt as if a 50000 pound weight had been lifted off my chest or something!
"Eternity!" I exclaimed, waving to get her attention. She bounded over towards me enthusiastically, beaming as if she had just won a gold medal. "Someone's in high spirits tonight!"
She nodded her head vigorously and said, "I gave Jett the note, and from the expression on his face I know that he will come to meet you!"
The faintest blush crept onto my cheeks as she said this, but I was hoping Eternity would pass it off for a side effect of the biting winds whipping about. Washington DC was absolutely freezing; I should have brought a jacket or sweater.
Eternity kept on chattering contentedly, leading the way back into the hotel as she told me about her whole journey, "So finally, after about an hour or so, I found him wandering around with his buddies, but luckily I was able to slip him the note without the others seeing!"
"Was Racquel with him?" I inquired softly, hoping she wouldn't hear the hint of jealousy in my voice.
"No, she was off somewhere, probably arguing with Greyson or Rhys," Eternity waved her hand at me reassuringly, but I couldn't help the pang I felt in my gut just from uttering the Eighth Digit's name.
"Anyways," Eternity continued without missing a beat, "I gave him the note and told him it was from you, and he just gave me this weird expression!"
But I had stopped listening to her at this point because there was someone very, very familiar at the end of the hallway which we were now stepping into. The elevator doors closed with an ominous "thud" behind us, and I turned back towards the now receding contraption, wishing it could take me someone, anywhere, other than here.
"What? What is it?" Eternity's emerald green eyes scrutinized the hallway for what had stopped me dead in my tracks, but then she saw it. Or rather, her.
"What are you doing here?!" I asked incredulously, taking a furious step towards, who else? The eighth Digit herself.
Racquel sneered and twisted a lock of jet-black hair around a pale finger, walking closer towards us. "Oh, I don't know. Just wanted to tell you that you can give up Jett now, because he's mine." Her narrowed eyes looked like purple slits, emanating hatred from their pupils.
I scoffed loudly and sent a disdainful glance in her direction, "Jett? Yours? If you think you can even compete with me, then you are crazy."
But suddenly, Racquel was gone, and all I heard was Eternity's high-pitched gasp of surprise before I felt something hard hit me on the back of my head.
And then everything went black.

I stood up from the floor, attempting to adjust. Of course, it was to be expected that it'd feel somewhat weird... But this was definitely something else. Suddenly, I remembered where I was supposed to be at this very moment, and hurriedly rushed off to meet Jett, who I had requested to meet at a room in this very hotel.
My footsteps were silent on the thick mosaic-patterned carpet of the hotel floors, but this did not stop me from treading carefully. Who knows what could sneak up on a person if they weren't too careful?
And at last, I had reached the room I instructed Jett to go to in my letter. I could only hope he was already there, but I didn't want to get my hopes up or anything. Twisting the pre-unlocked door, I cautiously stepped inside the dim-lit hotel room.
Lo and behold, the dark-haired Digit was sitting on one of the twin beds in the room, his head in his hands. He was so deep in thought that he didn't hear me enter the room, nor cross the space to stand in front of him.
The room was sparsely furnished, in stark contrast with the lavish suite I and the others now resided in. Two twin beds took up one hold wall, and opposite them was a wooden wardrobe, a dresser with a TV on the top, and an oval mirror. Two large windows took up half of the far wall, and I could just see the moon surrounded by clouds through the dark glass.
When he did look up, his eyes swept up and down my body once or twice, I smiled at him and took a seat next to him. He was obviously startled by my friendliness, especially since the encounter that we had last time... That was something I didn't want to remember. Baffled, he scooted away from me a bit and cocked an eyebrow curiously.
"Jett, I just wanted to tell you that it really doesn't have to be like this..." I started quietly, looking him in the eyes with a fiery resolve. But this wasn't what my goal was in meeting for him. No, it was something entirely different...
Jett shook his head, his shaggy black hair falling into his eyes and obscuring my vision of his face. "Ayre, what did you really want to talk to me about here?" he asked impatiently.
"Well, the truth is," I broke off my sentence suddenly, not able to meet the piercing gaze of those dark, red eyes. "The truth is, Jett... That..."
The first Digit shook his head in confusion, tilting it slightly. He inched somewhat closer towards me in order to peer at my conflicted face. I didn't know how to say it, I just knew that I had to. And soon, for I knew I'd be running out of time.
"Jett," I sighed heavily, turning my face frontwards. A minute passed in complete silence where neither of us moved, spoke, or even breathed, or so it seemed. I suddenly stood up, turned towards Jett and shouted, "Jett! I love you! I love you, I really do, and I hope you love me as well!"
His eyes widened considerably as he comprehended this exclamation, and no sooner was he standing up than I was pinned against a nearby wall by his arms. I gazed into his eyes longingly, wishing I could get lost in those eyes and never come out... Oh, if only.
"You really mean that?" Jett whispered in my ear, his voice cautious but yearning for me to confirm my confession. I could tell he wanted this to be true, but he also didn't want to believe it, simultaneously, just in case this was just a dream. He was vulnerable in this moment. And in this moment, I played my last card.
"Of course," I breathed, inhaling his scent as his face slowly moved closer towards mine, and I mirrored his movements with no hesitation. And it was then that I struck.
‡ Fox ‡
I changed back into my natural form, removed a dagger from my pocket, and instantly slashed at Jett, who had no time to move as I had acted so quickly. His arm now had a large gash and was bleeding heavily, but he backed up a few steps and immediately got into a fighting position.
Growling, he narrowed his eyes, "Where is Ayre?!"
I smirked cockily, wiping the blood off my blade with a nearby curtain. "Oh where, oh where, could your love be?" I teased him arrogantly, knowing that this was a battle I was going to win.
Yes, just for my love I disguised myself as Racquel, hit her and Eternity over the head in order to make them go unconscious, and seduced Jett until he was at his weakest point.
Then I went in for the kill.
Oh, how good it felt to relish with my eyes Jett's injured figure. If it was this easy to wound the first Digit, he was not much stronger than I was. Obviously the blood gushing out of the cut I had inflicted upon him was making him weaker, as he staggered a bit after attempting to approach me. He was in no state to fight, and I knew if I engaged him in battle right here I would surely win.
Quickly changing back into Ayre's form, I mocked him in a shrill voice, "I love you, Jett, I love you!"
Jett spat on the floor in front of me resentfully just as I shifted back into myself and grinned. "I'll have you know that she really did send for you, but I couldn't have any secret meetings occurring without me, now could I?"
The first Digit's brow creased with frustration, but instead of charging towards me he turned towards the window and lashed his leg at it, shattering the glass into a million pieces. "You will pay for this, Fox," he seethed menacingly, just low enough for me to hear. And then he morphed into a bird, using my powers, and flew away into the night.
After finishing the purification of my blade from his repulsive blood, I smirked as the knife's shining surface reflected my self-victory. Even the all-mighty Jett could be lured in, and I had been the one to find his weakness.
Ayre.
