New place, new chance

~Des

As we arrived in Haven, I had a really bad feeling. But I had to take charge. This was my chance for redemption, until we, or I, could figure out why, if the order was to destroy the plant, why we were being hunted by the Furor's lapdogs.

"For right now, we should try to find a place to stay, then make a plan from there. We should try to avoid soldiers as much as possible, though chances are they'll be too busy to notice us." Everyone gave silent agreement, and we continued walking. Not much later, I Rei came up next to me.

"I overheard some people talking. The Stern are here already," he whispered into my ear. My eyes widened, and I made sure none of the group could see my face. It really shouldn't have surprised me... but the fact that they followed us all the way here said they were really determined to hunt us down.

"Dammit, their stubborn," I whispered back. "We'll have to make due for now. Don't freak anyone in the team out yet."

"What are you two whispering about?" Charles asked from behind.

"I'll tell all of you later." And I ended that.

When we reached the nicest hotel in town, obviously the place they would least expect to find us, the team seemed surprised at my stopping.

"How are we suppose to afford this?" K'Satri spoke up. I smiled and pulled out a wad of cash.

"You forgot who my father is," I walked inside, leaving the others two wait for me in the street.

I figured two rooms was enough, one for the boys and one for the girls. I got two fairly large ones, but I'm sure Charles could sleep on the floor if they decided there wasn't enough bed space. Or he could share with Rei, I'm sure the two would get along just fine.

Once I had handed the boy's key to Rei, we headed up to the rooms, which happened to be right next to each other, with a door opening in between them. Thank God for locks, though.

As the others decided to make small talk, I left and went to look for supplies. Of course, I ended up in the main shopping area, distracted and looking at not as practical items. I wasn't stupid, I knew there was thieves everywhere here. Casually, I kept one hand touching the side pocket that was carrying my money.

Lucky me, I did feel it when a hand slipped into my pants and tried to pull out my wad of cash. My arm clamped down, and in a very short time I was holding the girl by the wrist. She was shocked that she had been caught, and I smiled kindly.

"If you want a donation, just ask," I told her, pulling out the money and offered her a rather large bill. I had plenty more of them, and something about the feeling I got from her said she had good intentions. She was about to thank me, when I heard screams from the center of the plaza. The crowd cleared considerably in only seconds, revealing a sight I really didn't want any time soon.

"Hm, it looks like I found multiple targets." It was... Nathan, if I remembered right. The sixth stern member who had attacked Rei. Not good.

Wait, multiple?

I looked at the girl, who clutched something close to her, and looked fearfully at the mutant.

"Sorry about this, but it seems we need to get out of here," I yanked on the girl's arm, pulling her behind me as I pulled out the new bow I had just purchased and an arrow. He charged, zigzagging at me, but one good shot stuck in his shoulder. Obviously not so happy about that, he pulled his trident and came for a direct attack. I barely dodged, and when I turned to find the other girl, I thought maybe he got a head shot on me, because I was seeing multiples.

I didn't have time to think too hard on it, before he came at me again.

It came down to a pretty close fight, me with a knife and him trying to grab me, only managing to leave a few scratches. Suddenly, the multiples of the other girl were attacking him. When he was confused, I got out of there.

One copy was standing in the shadows, hiding. On my way by, I grabbed her hand and pulled her along with me.

"C'mon! We need to get away. Me and my friends can help you." Not giving her a chance to argue, we ran until we reached the hotel.

"S-sorry about that..." I panted. Smiling at her, I offered my hand this time for a shake. "I'm Desmine. Everyone calls me Des."
