--Chapter 3--
You are an idiot, Envy. Lust's voice rang bluntly in Envy's head. Why can't you EVER do anything right?
Envy sighed, and responded, smirking, because aren't I so difficult to handle, Lusty? Hee hee...
No response.
Envy (Reyven) was lying down on a spare bed in Auori's small house, on a side street in a small neighborhood, part of Central City. He was under the flustered care of Auori, who was currently getting a glass of water for Envy.
*Knock knock*
"Come on in," Envy called, laying his head on the soft pillow.
With a small creak of the door, Auori entered, holding a full glass of water.
"Here you go, Reyven," Auori said, setting the glass of water on the side table. "Are you feeling any better?"
"Much better, thanks," Reyven (Envy) replied, drinking from the glass. "Especially since I'm here with you..." Crap! Envy thought. How the hell did that slip out?! He quickly looked over at Auori, who's face was red as beets. She smiled.
"G-glad you th-think s-so, R-reyv-ven..." She said, her words trembling from embarrassment at Reyven's sweet words. At the sight of this, Envy felt a bit shaken.
"Say, uh, could you get me an ice pack for my head? I have a headache..." He requested.
Getting up, Auori quickly agreed and left to retrieve the said ice pack. Making sure she was gone, Envy quickly sat up and covered his red face with his hand.
Damn, he thought. Why is she so...
So... what, Envy? Lust's voice said with a hint of humor. So, manipulating?
This took Envy by unpleasant surprise. That's not true, Lust! Shut up, will you?
Ooh, touchy, Lust said, sassily. Then what, Envy?
He didn't answer. She's too dangerous, he thought. For herself. For Father. For the mission... for me.
Auori knocked, and Envy quickly laid back down on the pillow. She entered, and gently set the bag of ice on Envy's forehead.
"Your hair is really... pretty, Reyven," Auori commented. Taken aback, Envy jerked back a bit. Surprised, Auori quickly apologized and said, "Sorry, I guess pretty isn't the right word?"
"Nah, it's fine," Envy said. Auori slowly put her hand on Envy's head, and stroked his long, forest green hair. It really is pretty, she thought, smiling. It can't be natural... can it? she wondered.
Stop. Now! Lust's voice ordered. Getting out of control, Envy! Stop!
Ah, shut up, Lust, Envy said, smiling. I've got this. Don't freak.
This will not end well, Envy, Lust repeated. Stop the relationship before something happens!
Mustang wants me to 'prove my loyalty', Lusty, Envy remarked. For one month. When one month is up, she'll spill. Envy paused, waiting for a response.
None came.
One month...
--Chapter 4--
"Your first assignment," Colonel Mustang announced, "...is to solve and fix a mystery going on in the North-North West area of Central City."
Auori nodded in understanding. "May I get some background?"
"Affirmative. Recently, in the Supplies District, warehouses have been attacked, with much food and medical supplies stolen. We need you, the Dragon Scale Alchemist, to restore the warehouses and capture the person responsible. You got all that?" Mustang explained and questioned. Auori nodded again. "Good. You'll head out as soon as possible, right?"
"Right!" Auori said excitedly. "I'm off, sir!" She said, taking her leave.
"Wait!" The Colonel called, and Auori stopped abruptly.
"Yes, Colonel Mustang?" Auori asked nervously. Mustang looked serious at first, and then he smiled brightly.
"How's your boyfriend now? Doing alright?" He asked.
"Oh, he's fine, doing fine," Auori replied happily.
"Good, good... so what are you going to do for your 'anniversary'?" The Colonel asked mischievously.
"Anniversary?" Auori questioned. "What anniversary?"
"Isn't it two weeks you've been dating him now, Miss Deveu?" He answered. "You're halfway there. One month. I don't forget things."
*ring ring*
"Oops! That's for me. Good luck on your assignment, Dragon Scale." Mustang dismissed, and Auori took her leave.
"Alright, then," Auori breathed. "Let's review... Supplies District, North-North West, food and medicine warehouses robbed and destroyed. I need to fix this and catch the thief. Simple enough, I guess." Auori pulled out her train military pass, and continued to mull over the information while walking to the train station to the Supplies District, deciding to first analyze the scene, fix the houses, and then hu--
"Boo!" A familiar voice said behind her.
"AHH!" Auori screamed in surprise, and blew back the person behind her with Wind Alchemy. Realizing what she did, she immediately ran over to the person to apologize. Only to find--
"What did you do that for, Ri-ri?" Reyven (Envy) said, a bit annoyed. Auori helped him up and quickly brushed him off.
"Sorry... I'm so sorry, Reyven..." she said, flustered. "You really startled me, that's all..." She looked up with a worried look on her face.
Reyven (Envy) looked to the side, at the train station entrance.
"Where you goin'?" He questioned, glancing at the military pass in Auori's hand.
"Can't tell you," she responded. "It's my first assignment, though."
"Can I come? I want to see you in action." Reyven asked hopefully.
What a lie I'm telling, he thought meanly.
"Sorry, remember what the Colonel said? No military stuff... I'm sorry..." Auori said sadly, and then remembered what the Colonel told her. "However..." she stepped a bit closer to Reyven. "... it's been two weeks already," she finished, blushing just a bit.
Now it was Envy's (Reyven's) turn to fidget and apologize.
"Seriously?" He asked, almost in disbelief. "Two weeks already? We have to cele--" He looked at Auori's sorrowed face. "Oh. Right." He said, disappointed.
"I'm really, really, really sorry about this, Reyven," Auori said weakly. "We'll do something for it, I pro--"
"The train is now boarding for Districts S and Y, please show your tickets or passes and find your seat..."
"Oh, no! Reyven, I have to go! See you later, okay?" Auori quickly said, beginning to walk away.
Sneak onto the train with her, Lust's voice commanded. Quickly!
Auori stopped, turned around, and saw Reyven's disappointed face.
She held his face, and kissed him on the cheek.
"Bye-bye, Reyven," she said, climbing aboard the train.
Now! Climb on now! The doors are going to close! Lust screamed. Envy! Listen to me!
But, Envy was too shell shocked to pay attention to anything around him. His hand was stuck where Auori had kissed him on the cheek.
Why do I feel so... upset? Envy asked himself. Or disappointed? And what's this feeling of... wanting more of something?
You're a sin, Envy, Lust's voice echoed. A sin. You don't feel virtues.
What? Envy asked. What do you mean by virtue, Lust?
What I mean, is that you're feeling love.
Wrong, Envy responded. As if, Lusty. Anything else to add?
...
You screwed up again, you idiot. Lust finalized, annoyed and angry.
Love, Envy thought. That's impossible for me.
