Chapter Two

I realize then that it was me
I caused his pain
I didn't mean to
I had no intention of hurting him
But I did
I broke his heart
And as he lies on the green-yellow carpeting of the forest
Taking shallow, shuddering breaths
Whispering my name
I feel my heart break in unison with his

I rush forward
Calling his name back to him
Begging him to get up
To look at me
Hoping to seal the split in his heart
But for every step I take
The meadow scene sprints a lightyear ahead of me

I close my eyes and try to block it out
My worst nightmare
Hearing only the broken rasp of his voice
As it shreds through my body
Painting pain wherever it touches
