Philosophy sucks
I know this isn't LiveJournal, but I have to whine about my ridiculous Philosophy teacher. Where better to complain about personal issues than the INTERNET?
So, I'm taking an online course, which means all of the tests are online. In order for them to be graded automatically, they're all multiple choice. However, this is the kind of teacher that likes to have far too many options for each question, with about half of them being "a and b" "c and d" "a, b and d" "none of the above" etc.
Now, I usually like multiple choice tests, but when I have to consider things like "well, I guess you could interpret it that way, as well..." it takes all the fun out of it. The course involves a lot of words that I can barely pronounce, let alone memorize multiple interpretations of, like Mahabharata, upanayana and Brihadaranyaka.
Despite this, I finished the latest quiz, certain that I got no less than 100%. I submit my answers, wait a moment and check my score. 70%. Confused, I scroll through the questions again to read the comments he often has for incorrect answers (they show up automatically depending on what you selected). Two of the incorrect answers had the same thing beside them "Correct, but there is a better answer." Last time I checked, CORRECT means NOT INCORRECT. Both of those "better answers" were the "both x and y" kind.
The other incorrect was misleadingly phrased to LOOK like the correct answer among several very wrong ones, but slightly re-worded, making it technically "none of the above."
I have voiced my opinion about these kinds of teachers before, and I think they're missing the point of their job. What they're doing is deceiving students into doing poorly; not teaching. They're no better than a teacher who won't give you credit for the right answer said well if you forgot to number your pages, or those who seem like they're being forced to teach at knife-point, and it's all your fault.
I wish teachers would just teach.
