KH: NJAN Chapter 1

This is a new fanfic I've been working on called Kingdom Hearts: Nobody's Just A Nobody (or just NJAN for short). I've also been posting this on my DA account here where you'll also find some of my other works. Yes, the first couple of chapters will seem like a ripoff from KH2, but, trust me, it is a different plot. Just watch and listen and you'll see what happens! NO I AM NOT A MARY SUE!!! I didn't make this character or this story so that she would be perfect and take away someone from the KH series. Sheesh. I hope you like it!

Chapter 1: Darkness

There was only darkness… A vortex of darkness… It swallowed all of the color from my surroundings… My memories… Red faded to grey and blue faded to black as my vision slowly disappeared... There was nothing I could do as faint images played in front of my eyes- blurs of grey and black meshing together as the images from my past slowly faded away… I tried to stretch out my arm to grab them, but my arm couldn’t move… My best friends were laughing and smiling as we sat atop that tower… Their faces became blurred… What were their names again? …Who was I talking about? …Oh, well… I don’t think it was that important … An image floated in my head of a boy… He had a blade… That shape seemed so familiar… Where had I seen him before?

Roxas…

For some reason that name popped into my head…Was that the boy’s name? …What was happening to me? …I was drowning- drowning in the unidentifiable blackness… I couldn’t move and yet I never stopped moving as I fell deeper into the darkness that was enveloping me in its thick embrace... I couldn’t see anything anymore- just the dark black that flooded my eyes… into my ears… clouding my eyes… muffling my scream as I tried to cry out… I couldn’t breathe… The darkness took my breath away…

“Nix.”

Was that a voice calling me?

“Nix, wake up.”

This voice… I think I’ve heard it before…

“Nix, come on. Wake up.”

“Are you sure she can hear you, Zinan?”

“Not really. I’m just trying to see how serious this episode is. Last time she didn’t wake up for nine days, even with Kanaye yelling in her ear every two minutes.”

“HEY! It’s not my fault that she sleeps like she’s in a coma!”

“Kanaye, she was in a coma.”

“…Oh.”

“What if we have to take her to the hospital? We can’t afford to get her any good treatment!”

“Calm down, Sachi. We’ll be able to figure this out.”

“But Haru! How can we possibly-”

“Guys, shut it! She’s waking up…”
Sighs of relief echoed around me as I moaned quietly and rubbed my eyes with my fist.

“Nix.” A high, girlish voice that was thick with worry stuttered to my right. “Are you alright?”

I couldn’t see her expression, but I nodded to stop her worrying, slowly getting up as two pairs of hands steadily lifted me to my feet. I sighed. “What happened?” I asked softly to no one in particular. Zinan was the first to answer.

“We were just trying to figure out how much munny we made today when you suddenly passed out.” He chuckled slightly before continuing. “You almost sent Sachi into a panic.”

A small ‘humph’ came from Sachi and the three older boys laughed. I rolled my eyes. “So are we going to go home or what?” I asked, interrupting their laughter. A slight happiness radiated from the four and I could tell they smiled.

“Sure. Let’s go. I was getting hungry anyways.” Kanaye replied, grunting slightly as his arms stretched above his head. Haru chuckled. “You’re always hungry!”

We laughed and set off, Zinan holding one hand and Sachi holding the other as they guided me down the path that led to our hideaway. You see, we were all orphans. Kanaye was a highly energetic, and extremely hungry, redhead whose parents had disappeared one night while he was sleeping. Sachi and Haru were two blonde siblings that were as close as could be, although they never talked about how they got separated from their family. Zinan was living on the streets before we met him. Myself… Well, let’s just say that I’ve never seen my family my entire life and I never will. Ever since we met each other, the gang and I have been inseparable. We’ve been living together in a small spare room in an inn that the innkeeper let us rent. In order to pay the rent though, we had to get munny. In order to earn munny, we had to work.

The only downside was that it was hard to do work when you are blind.

Now don’t get me wrong; I was fine at defending myself. I honed my senses to the point that I could tell where people were just by a shift in the air, but it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park to make deliveries when you couldn’t see where you’re going or read a map to find your destination. Seeing as I was definitely not strong enough to push trash up a hill, the only other option was entertaining passerbys. So I was stuck hitting a ball into the air repetitively. Not the most fun job in the world, in my opinion…

We reached our spare room and Kanaye let out a loud sigh of air, swooshing down and sitting promptly on a wooden crate that we used for furniture with a small grunt. He yawned, running a hand through his red (or so I’ve been told) hair. “Well, that wasn’t so bad.”

A twitch in the air so slight that it was almost unnoticeable, and the ominous sarcasm radiating off of him, told me that Zinan had rolled his eyes. “That is if you consider not earning any munny today as ‘not so bad.’”

Sachi tugged on one of the two blonde braids that hung off of the sides of her head before making them swish slightly as she pulled me down to the floor, sitting in my lap. “Stop it guys. You’re not helping us by fighting.”

“Zinan is right, though.” I said quietly. “Our rent is due the day after tomorrow when we get back from work and we don’t even have enough munny to pay half of the payment, let alone the whole thing.” I carefully undid Sachi’s braids, running her now-wavy hair through my fingers as I talked. “Even if we work overtime, we still wouldn’t be able to pay off the rent. We just don’t have enough munny or time.”

Haru muttered, “Well, if Kanaye would stop eating all of our food…”

“Hey! It’s not my fault I have a high metabolism! I need to eat in order to work…” Kanaye complained.

“Stop it you guys…” Zinan warned quietly, rolling out one of the sleeping bags on the floor in order to make it more comfortable to sleep on. I ran my hands through Sachi’s hair a few more times before tying a ribbon in a bow behind each of her ears and finally relinquishing her to her already sleeping older brother. Sachi got up from her position in my lap and padded over to where, I assume, her brother was propped up against a crate, already asleep. Kanaye slid off of the crate and onto the floor, snuggling between the wall and the spread sleeping bag. Zinan was in the middle, sleeping flat on his stomach again with his shoulder-length black hair strewn all over his face. I still sat in the corner, quietly listening to the sounds of the night around me. There was no light in our small little spare room except for the light of the moon that shone through the small window on the door (unless it was a new moon tonight, but I wouldn’t know that, now would I?). Slowly, I let myself curl into a ball and relax on the floor, still huddled in my little corner. If I wasn’t blind, maybe I would have noticed the pair of eyes watched me long after I was asleep and that were long gone before I awoke.

So did you like it? Hate it? Think it sucked? Tell me your opinion! Comment please!! So far it's basically about Nix's struggles as a blind girl in twilight town. Nix, Kanaye, Sachi, Haru, Zinan (c) by ME! Kingdom Hearts (c) by NOT ME!!!

And the person who was looking in the window... well... I'll let you figure that one out.
