Chapter Thirty-Nine: Feel like I Belong

-Jason-

I sat in the room alone…what else were they going to do with me? I knew that my parents were with me, but everything that was done to me while I was in the lab I couldn’t get out of my head. I didn’t know if I was going to get tubes shoved down my throat, random surgeries, breaking bones to see if I have quick regeneration.

Remembering everything at once I involuntarily started shaking and tears swelled up in the corner of my eyes. I hated this…all these memories…no matter what I did they wouldn’t go away.

“Jason what’s wrong?” I didn’t even hear my father come in.

I shook my head and whipped away my tears. “It’s nothing.” I answered in a shaky voice.

“Jason you can tell me.” He said being sincere and father like as he sat down in the chair that was close to the bed I was sitting on.

“I…I just can’t get ride of the memories of the labs that I was in. I don’t want anything that happened there happen here. I’m just scared…” I answered looking down at my lap.

I felt my dad put a hand on my shoulder and I looked up at him he had a gentle smile across his lips. “Jason we’re not going to do anything that they did. And if we do then let us know right away and we’ll think of something else how does that sound?” He said.

I smiled weakly back, “Thanks dad, but I know that some things need to be done in order to get me back to normal. I know that no matter how long it takes you and mom will be able to get me back to normal.” I said.

“Your mom should be coming back soon. We have the latest technology, we should be able to find a way to get you back to normal.” He said walking over to the sink.

“So what do I have to do to help?” I asked.

“Well you can start by answering a few questions for me son.” Dad said.

“Okay, like what?”

“What exactly did they do to you?” He asked.

I looked down at my lap again and took a deep breath and then started describing in detail what they did to me from what I could remember being there for fourteen years. My dad was shocked and my story seemed to have attracted a fair amount of other people that work in the building.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” One of the girls said with tears at the corners of her eyes.

“No one should have to go through something like that.” Another person said.

“It’s okay.” I smiled at them, “I would have rather it happen to me then someone else.” I answered.

“Alright, everyone I know that you want to just be able to stand around but we do have stuff to do, so lets get back to work.” My dad said shooing everyone away to get back to their work.

I was with dad just talking and he was just keeping me calm as we waited for mom to get back to the room. It took about an hour an half for mom to come back. When mom got to the room she had a couple of papers and a tray with a couple of needles with some sort of liquid in a small bottle. I shuttered a little bit and my heart started racing when I saw the needles. “What’s all of that?”

“Well since we were able to figure out what was in your DNA. We started working on something that might help.” My dad said.

“Oh.” I said still a bit confused.

“It’s only temporary. The effects probably won’t last long.” Mom said.

“So can’t you try it out on my blood that you took?” I asked curiously.

“We needed those blood samples to mix it into the serum.” Mom said.

“So what now?” I asked.

“Not today. I just wanted to be able to show you what we were doing.” My dad said.

“We’re trying sweetie.” My mom said.

“Should we head home?” My dad asked,

“You can go ahead and take Jason home. I’m sure that he wants to get out of here.” My mom smiled.

“Alright. I’ll come back after I drop Jason off at home.” Dad answered as I got off the bed.

“I’ll be fine on my own. I don’t mind really.” I smiled at both of them. “Thank you for try. Please don’t stay out too late.” I said.

My mom smiled and hugged me. “We promise we will get you back to normal Ja.” My mom whispered.

“We promise we will be back around eleven tonight.” My dad said as my mom let go of me.

“Okay.” I smiled at them and then dad and I went out to the car and he drove me home.

“I’m sorry that being in the lab scared you so much son.” Dad mentioned breaking the silence between us as he drove me home.

“It’s okay. Really…I know that you and mom are trying your hardest, just please also take you time. I don’t want you two over working yourselves because of me.” I stated.

“We just want to be able to help you in any way we can. We’ve missed the majority of your life from talking with other parents for five minuets when you were younger. We just don’t want to lose you again.” My dad said sounding like he was blaming himself.

“Dad, please, don’t worry about it. It’s in the past.” I said as we pulled into the driveway.

“You are the most important thing in the world to us Jason.” He continued.

“I know dad. Thank you for everything.” I smiled and opened the car door after I unbuckled. “So you and mom will be back at eleven then?” I asked again just to make sure.

“Yep.” Dad nodded with a smile.

I got out of the car. “I’ll leave the porch light on then just in case I’m in bed.” I said.

“Try to relax and unwind a bit.” He smiled at me, “See you tonight.”

“Yep, sounds good.” I smiled back and then shut the door to the car and dad backed out of the drive way and drove off.

I sighed and looked back at the house. I always wonder what it would have been like to be able to come home everyday to a loving family. I was glad that I was able to do that now. It was nice having parents that loved and cared for me. I finally felt like I belonged somewhere and I wasn’t just a science experiment.

As I walked into the house I pull out my phone and text Elijah to let her know that I made it home then I went to my room to get clothes to take a shower and try to relax for the night.
