Chapter One: Experiment 201

-Jason-

I woke up to a low beeping that was coming from my left side. I was in one of the labs again. I tried getting up and I felt the leather straps that I’ve tried to get out of before holding down my arms and legs. Just how many times have I been on this table? What else is there for them to possible experiment on me with? I looked over at the heart monitor and some of my hair fell over my face. I hated that this was my life…I didn’t want to die but sometime…it seems like that is my only way out of this hell hole.

“Experiment 201 is awake.” I heard one of the nurses say as I tried to lift my head but I was too weak. I could tell that I haven’t had anything to eat in a day or two and I needed to eat something soon or my body would start eating away at what little muscle that I have.

“My name is Jason, miss.” I said to her weakly.

“I’m sorry, on my records it only calls you experiment 201. I’ll ask them to change that right away.” She apologized.

“No…it’s alright…I’m use to being called that no one here really cares about what my name is. They only care if I’m alive so that they can keep going with their experiments.” I told her as I heard other doctors come in.

The two doctors that came in turned off the monitor and unstrapped my arms so that I could sit up. They checked all my vitals and then brought over more needles.

“What is it this time? Are you going to inject bird DNA into me? That will just be contradicting the Feline DNA that you injected into me a month ago.” I commented.

“This is enhancement formula.” The one with the needle said to me.

“They have something called steroids for that.” I snipped back at him.

“This is a enhancement formula for that feline DNA that we injected into you. It’s meant to strength the DNA and hopefully fully bond your DNA and the cats DNA together.” The other doctor explained to me.

“Have you ever considered if I wanted to be part cat or not?” I asked the women doctor that explained the enhancement formula that they were just about to inject into me.

“You are an experiment, you have no say in what happens.” The man said then stabbed me with the needle in my arm and I felt the liquid go into my arm making my arm throb.

“That hurt.” I glared at the male doctor as he pulled the needle out of my arm and stuck a bandage over the hole.

“Nurse take Experiment 201 to his room.” The women jumped in.

“Yes Ma’am.” The nurse bowed and unstrapped my legs. I slid off the table and walked with the nurse. I was easily taller then her; probably five maybe six inches taller. She has brunette hair that was pulled back tight into a bun. “Don’t you ever want to run away form here?” She asked me as we turned the corner.

“Since I was able to comprehend what they were doing to me I’ve always wanted to run away. I just don’t have to will to do it. They’ve brown me down so much that I can’t even commit suicide.” I answered truthfully. I had nowhere to go anyways even if I did want to leave this place.

“They turn the security camera’s off at night at least most of them. I’ll leave your door unlocked. I don’t want to see experiments done on someone. It’s not right.” The lady said clutching her clipboard.

“You’ll get in trouble if you do that.” I stated as I waited for her to open the door to my prison.

“I know, but if it keeps you from going through anymore experiments then I would rather lose my job.” She said typing in the code for my door to open.

“Here’s a hair tie so you can pull your hair out of your face.” She said pulling the extra one that she had on her wrist off and handed it to me.

“It’s alright. I’ve had to deal with it being so long I’m use it to.” I lightly smiled at her.

“Just run away. There’s nothing holding you here so what’s stopping you?” She asked with tears filling in her eyes.

“Myself.” I told her and walked into my room and she closed the door behind me. I took a sharp breath in and grabbed my shirt over my heart and stumbled over to my so that I had some support standing up.

My vision was becoming tunnel vision and there was a loud ringing in my ears. When my vision went back to normal I watched my black hair lighten and turn orange. I was hoping that wasn’t permanent, but with these experiments my hair changing color isn’t the worst thing that could have happened. I hated these experiments and I kept just taking them. That nurse was right. I really don’t have anything keeping me here. The only thing that was stopping me was myself, but what if I do run away if I do leave will get caught and brought back then punished for my actions.

I sat on my bed and thought about what the nurse said to me. I couldn’t tell what time of day it was or what year it was. I just knew that I was four when I was brought here and I’ve been here for fourteen years, which made me eighteen. Technically I was old enough to live on my own, but I’ve been here so long I don’t know how to act around others.

I gripped my blanket and looked up at my door the lights in the hall were dimed, which meant that everyone must have gone home. “I wonder if she actually did leave my door unlocked.” I muttered to myself standing up.

I was so in thought that I didn’t hear them slide my dinner under my door. I grabbed the bread that was on the tray and then pressed the button that the doctors usually press to open my door and it actually opened. She didn’t lock my door after all. My heart pounded as I stared at the floor in front of my door. Taking a deep breath I took a step and then broke into a run down the hall.

I felt like I was a rat in a maze as I ran through the halls trying to find the exit to this place. I found a side door that lead to outside and once I was outside I didn’t look back. I wanted to get as far away from that place as I could. I must have run for a few miles before I couldn’t run anymore and I had to relax. It didn’t help that I haven’t eaten anything. I found a tree and sat down at its base and pulled out the bread that I was given at dinner and slowly ate it.

I didn’t know where I was, but apparently this was where I was going to rest for the night because my body just didn’t want to get up after eating. It made since though since I can’t remember the last time I did so much running at a time. “I’m finally out…” I breathed out as I closed my eyes to get some rest.
