The Water Keys are the most powerful, endowing their holders with special abilities, and there are more of them. They control the positions of the Gates.
The Fire Keys (under control of the Llanian government as of Eternal Rain: TRIGGER) affect the positions of portals.
The Earth Keys lock the Gates' and portals' positions once they are reset.
The Air Keys provide energy to the other Elemental Keys.
