The College Experience: Week 1

To go into detail about the party we went to, first things first: it was actually a school-sponsored event. If they can't get someone here to DJ, they hire a DJ.

Seven or so of us went to one of the buildings on campus; the party was in the gym, and they covered the floor in plastic to protect from the paint. One guy was working the sound system while the other got the crowd pumped up and threw paint at us. I literally got it all over my entire body, even in my ear at one point. It was in my hair, all over my shirt (free t-shirt given out by Student Life to promote the event, purposefully worn to be stained), on my glasses, all over my arms and legs and face, and in places I didn't know I could get paint...

Fortunately, my Friday class is at eleven, so going to bed a little after midnight wasn't a big deal.

Except when the fire alarm goes off in the building at seven in the morning, like it did today.

I spent most of today struggling with my laptop, since I got kicked off the network for a while (thanks, guys, I appreciate it) due to a tech glitch. I was able to print off one of my syllabi and do the quiz that's due Monday, and I also printed off my art history powerpoint notes, but nothing else got done, really. It took too long to fix my laptop after I skyped with my folks for the first time.

One thing I'm really happy about is that, thanks to technology, I'm able to avoid homesickness and talk to my parents whenever I want. I text my dad at random during the day, and usually call at night to talk to my dad and grandma. Skyping with them earlier was also a big help, since I got to see them for the first time since they left on Sunday

They should be coming down for a visit sometime next week; not all of my clothing I wanted to pack made it here, since there wasn't enough room in the car, and I'm also waiting on them to bring a wired printer so I don't have to worry about my assignments and printing charges and whatnot. It'll definitely be easier if I can just use my own printer, and my roommate and the girl from the suite next to us are also welcome to use it, since they've got a crapton of paper to print on.

Speaking of, my new friend from next door might sleep over tomorrow night; she's the only girl in her suite, since everyone else went home for the weekend, and all but two other girls in my suite went home as well, my roommate included. It'd be fun to have her crash here, if only so the weird noises at night don't freak me out. We have boys above us on the other three floors, and they do some weird stuff at night, let me tell you...

Anyways, it's half past eleven, so I should get to bed! We're going to the waterfest tomorrow with our RM, and it isn't until eleven, but I have some readings for class I want to get done before we leave. I do have the whole weekend and then some, but I want to get ahead; the more work I do on the front end, the easier it is come exam time.

Goodnight, otakus!

love,
Elricz
