It's My Birthday!!

Happy 1st Birthday Ashton!

So today was the little boy's first birthday. John baked him a special puppy birthday cake and he had a little party. Brynner was in attendance of course and the vet clinic resident dog, Tika, came over for the doggie slumber party. They ate cake, played and had a great time. Ashton got a new dog crate with pad, toys and collar. Currently all dogs are sleeping from the excitement of the big day.

Poochapalooza!

I'm ordering some room service.

So this past weekend in Marysville, Washington was this dog event called Poochapalooza. It was really like a county fair for dogs. They had vendors selling everything from doggie clothes to treats. Other booths housed vet clinics, photographers, groomers, boarding and training facilities as well as some service organizations like bulldog rescue, the Seattle Humane Society, Delta Society and Reading for Rover. They had a frisbee competition which was fun to watch as well as agility and obedience activities.

Ashton had a ball. He went though the Rally Obedience course and did really well. So now John and I are looking into competing with him. In addition to that I had the chance to talk with the Delta Society people about what the requirements are for Ashton to become a Therapy Dog. I know having my pets around when I am feeling really sick makes me feel better. I would love to be able to visit nursing homes and hospitals to bring that same happy feeling to others.

We also spoke with Reading with Rover which is something else I really want to get into. The program is set up for children who have difficulty reading to have a dog sit with them so the dog can be a listener. Kids read books out loud to the dogs who don't judge them for mistakes. It is an amazing program. It encourages kids to read who otherwise don't want anything to do with reading. What is really great is John's mom is the librarian for a middle school which would be the perfect place to visit.

It was a great trip and we plan on going back again next year. It was also Ashton's first stay in a hotel. He's such a good little traveler. ^_^

Summer Means Swimming

In the event of a water landing your Corgi will become a flotation device.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis are herding dogs. Ashton is more of a water dog. Or at least he thinks he is. He loves his little blue pool in the backyard, he goes bonkers over the sprinklers and given the opportunity he would probably be perfectly happy floating out to sea. Knowing his unusual love of water we had to take him to the lake. Watching him run down the shore of the lake was highly entertaining. He would run back and forth then dive into the water, swim a bit, pull up a mouth full of lake weeds then proceed to bring them back to us. What a good boy. lol

With a successful trip to the lake, the ocean is next on the list. :)

Ashton's Intro to theOtaku.com

Howdy from sunny Eastern Washington State!

In this little world I am going to share with you his little adventures.

So let me begin by introducing you to Dansen Ashton Ein's Real Folk Blues, aka Ashton. He is officially 7 month old today since his birthday is November 17, 2008. He is a red and white male Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He enjoys ice cubes, swimming in his little blue pool, obedience class and cuddling.

Currently Ashton is enrolled in obedience class though the local Kennel Club. It's pretty nice since I've already gone thought class with Heston so now it's John's turn to go to class. It's also nice that the instructors are all clients at the vet clinic I work at so we already have an in with the teachers. lol Anywho, I am a good Corgi mom and go to class as well. It's been over a decade since we had pups going though basic obedience so it's a nice refresher for me.

Today we all went to the state park for some obedience practice and fresh air. He was a very good boy and even had a chance to see his first squirrels. I think he thought they were really small cats. lol After the park we went to Dairy Queen for ice cream. He had a very tall vanilla cone which he made quick work of. I will have to post pictures of that soon. ^_^

Well, there you have it, the first post in Ashton's World. Hope everyone will fall in love with him as much as I have.
