Smell of Coal in the Morning

Now I remember again why I don’t particular like coming back here. Too many problems that I get involved with that can lead to some negative outcomes. Ahh what the hell, never stopped me before. Not like I had a choice anyway, least after I saw drunk grab that girl’s chest.

I put my stuff back down by the table where I was at and turned to where my helmet was sitting.
“Of course I am. Be right back.” I said calmly before walking up behind the young gently man I noticed earlier in area 2. I grab his arm as I approached.

“That won’t solve the problem young man.” I said to him as I paused his motion till he loosen the tension in his muscles before I let go.
This guy wasn’t going to listen to reason so there is only one to deal with men like this. I grab his hand off the girl’s chest with my right hand and quickly broke his arm over my fore arm. I dropped his hand and lifted the young lady off his lap.
I grabbed my small knife out of my left vanbrace and threw at his buddy next to him who leaned forward to get out of his chair.

“Don’t do anything stupid now. “I stated as the knife landed between his legs sticking into the chair just a few inches from his man hood.
“Now then. Is that how you were raised to treat a lady?” I stated at them as I was frustrated with them. I was taught to treat a lady with respect until she showed otherwise that she didn’t deserve it.

Moments after I asked I heard a knife his their target board before the young gentle I stopped shouted at the men.

“Get the hell out and don’t come back.” I heard him shout from behind me before his footsteps indicated he turned around.

With the young lady appearing to be okay I walked over, grabbed my knife out of the chair and went to get my stuff. I was tired from the walk and need to get a room.
“Come on girl, time for bed.” I said as I reach to pick up my helmet before turning and walking out.

Nothing really happened that night, but was nice to be in a comfortable bed for once. I gathered my stuff and wandered back down stairs to turn my key in. I saw the young lady from the night before back by tables. She didn’t seem all the weak like she let on but it was not my place to try and find out.

I left The Ugly Duckling and started to wander through the town trying to find a place that would allow me to repair my own armor. This place has really developed since I first got here and most of the small I went to all no longer around.

“Let’s try this one shall we?” I said as I approached the door. I was expecting the same old reply that they could allow me to work on my own armor. As I opened the door I noticed an elder looking lady behind the counter. The counter had two shelves and were full of various knifes and daggers separated between them. A smiles grew over the lady’s face as I entered.

“Hello there dear how are you today?” She asked me as she came around the counter to help me take my gear off.

“I doing well mam. Thank you.” I replied to her with a smile as I started to take off my two shields.

“We haven’t seen many people these days. Nor anyone that has armor like yours.” She said as she took my shields from me leaning them on the wall behind me.

“You talking to yourself again dear?” I heard a voice from the back room yell.

“No Hecker! There is customer here and I was helping him with his gear!” She yelled back as she faced the door. Before turning back to face me. “Oh I’m sorry you had to hear that dear.”

I smiled and started to walk around the room looking at the different weapons and armor. “No need to apologize. I haven’t been back to area 1 in a while and have been looking for a shop like this.” I said to her as I saw a one-handed axe on display.

“Well the good shops are always hard to find and off the beaten path.” She said with a smile as she made her way back to the counter. “So what can we do for you?” finished as she sat down.

Turning to face her I started to loosen the straps holding on my skirt armor. “I am looking for a place that would allow me to fix my armor or could do it for me. I have been out in the field for a long period of time and it has been abused.” I told as I finally undone the connection and removed the skirt placing it on the counter.

Her face lit up as I stated my request and she quickly got up making her way to the door. “Hecker! Come here! You need to talk to this gentleman.” She shouted before returning to the counter. “He shall be right with you.” She smiled.

A few moments past and an older gentleman appeared at the door. “What do you want you old lady!” He mumbled as he came into the room.

“This gentleman would like some of his armor repaired but asked if he could do it himself.” The lady said.

The old man just stood there for a moment deep in thought with his hand stroking his beard. “I will allow it on one condition.” He said walking up to me. “You have to work with me and listen to me around son?” He stated as he leaned his hand onto the counter.

“How about I let you do your work and show me your craftsmanship while I help you and learn. How does that sound sir?” I stated to the gentleman as I started to remove my chest armor that also needed repair.

His face grew a big smile and he quickly turned back to the door. “We start now and shall have no interruptions. Lessa, no interruptions till we are done.” He shouted before disappearing into the back room.

For the rest of the day I was learning and working with Hecker with the repairs on my armor. I left with my armor all repaired to a high standard then before thanks to Hecker.

“Thank you very much for nicely repaired and upgraded armor. As well as a better balanced axe.” I said to them as I received my armor and started to put it back on.

“You are always welcome here Sig.” Lessa mentioned with a smile as I finished getting my armor on.

Hecker walked over to me and placed his hand on my chest. “Please do stop by with whatever you need. It was nice to work on a true artist piece of armor again.” He said to me before walking over and putting is arm around Lessa.

I waved good bye and started for the door. “Thank you again.” I said before opening the door.

From there I wandered through the side streets from their shop back to the main alley and back to the Ugly Duckling. They said they would have a room for me if I needed for another night.

It was pretty much dark by the time I left the repair shop and was by the time I re-entered the Ugly Duckling. After getting settled back into the room, I went down to get some food. The men from earlier were there and they watched me as I entered. They were a little nervous and skittish but who could blame them.

I found a corner table again and sat down to relax before eating. I closed my eyes for a bit and leaned the chair back. I heard a person approach but they stop on the far side of the table from me. I waited and listen to see what there were going to say or do next.
