The afternoon was quiet. The hot sun baked the pavement. The buzz of insects filled the air. School had let out for the day and most of the students had gone home. Even the Deimon Devil Bats, the school’s football team, were not practicing this afternoon. The Football Clubhouse sat nearly empty except for two members. Inside, escaping the heat, the quarterback #1, Yoichi Hiruma, sat flipping through a recent football magazine. His feet were propped up on the desk, his chair was set back hovering on its two back legs. His eyes calmly scanned each page of the magazine with great interest.

The other player that had stayed with him was running back #21, Sena Kobayakawa. Sitting on the other side of the clubhouse, Sena sat on a bench watching a small TV. The TV displayed their last game against the White Knights. Even though he knew the outcome of the game, Sena sat on the edge of his seat, watching every move the camera displayed on screen. He had seen the tape thousands of times but he could never get over the power of the White Knights.

Hiruma could hear the noise of the television. His eyes shifted over to see Sena sitting particularly poised in excitement. Closing his magazine, he threw it onto the table and then stood up. Sena was too involved in the TV to notice Hiruma’s movements but all that changed when the quarterback suddenly landed on top of him.

“Ya-ha!” Hiruma yelled with enthusiasm. His weight knocked Sena off the bench and they both landed on the floor. Sitting on top of him, Hiruma placed his hands on his knees and looked down at his star running back.

Sena winced. Seconds later he felt himself being pulled up by his arms. His helmet was suddenly pushed down on his head. Standing there, Sena looked at Hiruma through the green eye shield on his helmet.

“Hiruma-sempai, do I have to wear this in here?” Sena asked, “I mean it’s not like anyone is going to see me.”

“Finger drill time!” Hiruma said. He held up both his hands, “Show me all your fingers.”

Sena paused. He then did as he was told and held up his hands to show Hiruma all his fingers.

“Good,” Hiruma nodded, “Now fists.” The quarterback made his hands into fists. He watched his running back replicate him perfectly, “Good, good. Now thumbs.” Hiruma brought his thumbs out.

Sena started to get skeptical. Hiruma was an excellent quarterback but he was also infamous for being very evil. Blackmail seemed to be the core of his foundation and weapons were his threatening item of choice. Although Sena knew he could trust Hiruma on the football field, he wasn’t sure he could trust him anywhere else. But he would never ignore Hiruma’s orders. It was just something that wasn’t done.

Bringing out his thumbs, Sena mimicked the quarterback’s movements, “Like this?”

Hiruma smiled, his fangs gleamed wickedly, “Good. Now point them down.”

Sena turned his fists so that his thumbs were pointing down. Seconds later he heard a snap from Hiruma’s camera phone. The running back dropped his hands. His shoulders slumped and he let out a sigh of defeat. He had the distinct feeling he would soon see his picture on a threatening poster to another team.
