News: Tony Stark Hanging Up the Armors In Upcoming May Story Arc?

Marvel.com announces that in May 2012, The Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 1) No. 516 will be released to launch a turning point story arc called "Long Way Down". It will be set in the aftermath of the currently running "Demon" story arc, which is told in the same series, and be warned that the tale may bring sadness to some of you Marvel fans out there as it will deal with (the mainstream Marvel Universe's) Tony Stark's decision to give up being Iron Man forever after suffering from several problems: 1) betrayal from allies, 2) enemies Mandarin and Ezakiel Stane's upgrade on old foes, and 3) an anti-Iron Man publicity campaign, though he's being offered a chance to help regain control of his Iron Man mantle during these crisis so as to not suffer anymore losses, which Tony refuses due to concerns over the risks. It it cheers you up, The Invincible Iron Man writer Matt Fraction indicates that this upcoming will also mark the debut of a new Iron Man (can't be James Rhoades since he's already got his Iron Man 2.0 mantle).

Although I haven't read much of The Invincible Iron Man, I have to say I wasn't expecting the calling quits scenario from Tony Stark. I was more expecting this from Peter/Parker Spider-Man and the X-Men, given they're more hated than the Avengers.
