Seeing that the situation with Kai had been settled I changed back into my human form. It would be easier to restrain Shadow without hurting him like this. I wasn't altogether sure that Shadow hadn't gone on ahead. Surprisingly Nanuke was still holding him, he was growling and giving those around him a death glare, but otherwise the same old Shadow.
Pierce was making the hunter talk. I looked over and cot Kai's eye, he looked away. He seemed different, what had Pierce said, "Kai...You were never a halfer."? Ya, that was it. My blood boiled, that was the third halfer I had met that was originally human, and the second made through experimentation. From Shadow I knew not all humans were like that, but the cruelty of some humans still infuriated me.
I took my anger, my hatred for those cruel humans out by kicking a mound of snow.
It's not that I hate all humans, Tie and Andy saved my brother, I felt a certain fondness for them. What had happened to me, all the things humans had done to me, my family, and Kallik, I could have hated them, I could have hated them for what they'd done. Kallik was born a human, orphaned at birth even. They had used her and other human orphans to learn how to turn humans into halfers. They had used there own kind for something like that. Kallik didn't know, I had made sure of that. Yet humans had there good side to, Tie and Andy had saved Shadow, they had known he was a halfer, but they had still treated him as there own.
I didn't know what to think any more. Whenever I thought of humans as cruel beasts Shadow reminded me that they had saved me, whenever I thought of them as kind my mind reminded me of what they had done to me, to Kallik. After they were done with her they had thought she would die. When she didn't they left her in the woods to fend for herself as no more than a blind baby. What was it about humans that they were so cruel, yet so kind.
My mind raced back to Thunder, he wasn't human, but he was cruel. Was cruelty everywhere? Could anyone ever escape it?
Now I thought that hating any one animal was wrong. We could all be cruel. Even so, I hated hunters more than anything else.
"Ice, you coming or not?" Pierce's voice drew me back from my thoughts.
"Ya, I'm coming," I sighed and truged on through the snow in the direction of the abducted halfers.

A look into Kallik's past, She doesn't remember any of it, and Ice made sure it was hidden from her. Man he can be deep.
