Hot Model Action

More nerd stuff. Prepare thyself.

Well, I build WWII military models. Well, I used to build them when I had more time. In any case, here's some pictures of my ultra-tedious creations. Seriously, these would take days to complete. I'd work on them for a couple of hours per-day, and keep track of the time (e.g. 6 days spent on the P-38, totaling 19 hours 40 minutes!).

These two are pics of an American fighter the P-38L Lightning, nicknamed "The Fork-Tailed Devil". (All of the models are American planes.) Notice on the second pic, you can see I also airbrushed some exhaust stains, and attached an antennae to the plane. Also, if you look carefully, you can see that I made the paint-job look deliberately old, e.g. paint chips around the wings and around the propellers.

These are a P-47D Thunderbolt. In the first pic, you can see that I made this one look battleworn, too. I painted it so the olive green would look sun-faded, like it's been sitting in the hot sun for some time. In other pics, you can see that I also made the paint look like it's chipped (especially in pic 3).

Last but not least is the famous P-51D Mustang, my favorite! (See, you can now probably understand why I kinda like Charlotte "Shirley" Yeager from Strike Witches, haha. Her model is based on the P-51D.) I spent 8 days on this one, totaling 32 hours in all. This one had extensive detailing done to it: drilling open the exhaust pipes, adding tail-radar, wired the gun bay, added hydraulic lines to the landing gear, etc. All the chips and general old-ness is deliberate, like the others. And yeah, I did paint the buttons in the cockpit! I had to use a toothpick to do that.

The bad thing about building these? They're useless after making them! It's not like I'm going to run around outside making airplane and gun sounds with these in my hands. If I could find someone to give them to, I probably would. Oh yeah, sorry for the (deliberately) misleading title, haha.
