"Are you sure you can handle then, mama?" I asked her, my blue eyes gazing into her emerald green ones. The guilt of leaving her with the kids was overwhelming. I just hoped she wouldn't resent me for this later.
"Look, Kyoko, we will be fine. Kyon is old enough now to watch his younger siblings. He'll be able to handle it just fine," my mother consoled me, reaching out to pat my long, black hair.
I smiled into her hand as a single tear slid down my cheek. I didn't know when I'd be coming back home. I turned to the three faces staring up at the two of us, and knelt down in front of them, pulling Kyon, the oldest, into a quick hug.
"Where are you going?" he asked tentatively, his brown eyes big with curiosity.
I forced a smile, "To the Bond-Keeper Headquarters. I have to help fight in the war. But, I promise I'll come back home."
My other brother, Dozu ran up to me and wrapped his skinny little arms around my neck in a hug. "I don't want you to go, Kyo!" he wailed into my ear, calling me by my nickname.
I wiped away his tears. "I have to go. I need to fight to protect you guys." I pulled my little sister, Kia, into my open embrace, smelling the sweet smell all little kids have in her brown hair. She was sobbing into my chest, and as I set her down and stood up, I knew I needed to leave now before it go much worse.
"I love you guys," I said as I reached the door. Opening it, I waved at them one final time before I disappeared outside with a backwards glance.
Yoko, my trusty little dragon friends was on my shoulder before I even hit the gate. "Where are we going?" he asked, looking back at the house and the faces I was sure were staring out the window.
I grabbed the flier out of my bag and read it aloud. "The War must be finished. You know this. I know this. And we would like you to join us in ending it once and for all. Shadow Walker believes he is strong, but we are stronger. We will defeat him and reshape the bonds! Join the Alliance! Both humans and Bond-Keepers! We welcome you to the Bond-Keeper Headquarters to join and finish the war that has lasted five years! Come and Soon!"
