This morning the rights that will make Ghost in the Shell into a live-action movie were acquired by Dreamworks, with fierce support from Stephen Spielberg.

Avi Arad is producing the project. He works for Marvel studios and besides a number of cartoon series, also produced the Spiderman, Iron Man, and The Hulk movies, just to name a few.

Jamie Moss, most recently known for being the screenwriter of Street Kings is set to write the script.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Spielberg would direct himself, so the studio is beginning its search. No release date has been set yet.
