L change the world

(just reposting this don't mind me )

I was shopping earlier this morning and I passed by this pirated DVD stall. I saw this white covered DVD with a big “L” in Old English text just calling for me. I didn’t hesitate I just have to watch it! I have been waiting for this movie’s release since late last year and when it was finally released in Japan last February I waited for a good soul to translate the movie. And here it is!

To be able to defeat the Death Note and finally close the Kira case, L wrote his name on the Death Note. He wrote that in 23 days he would die quietly of heart attack. You know this already right?... moving on then...

During that time he received a message that one of Watari’s contacts, “F” died while on a mission in Thailand. When the Kira case is finally close he solved all his pending cases and finishes it in a really short amount of time. After that he quitely sits in his chair and somehow continues to mourn for Watari’s death. With only less than 23 days to live he received a phone call intended for Watari. He accepts it and considered this as Watari’s gift. This gift is a boy that came from Thailand the only survivor in a virus outbreak. “F” saved him and gave him a necklace that carries his report on the virus outbreak. While this is going on a girl named Maki witnessed her father’s death. His father is a scientist who formulating an antidote for the virus. Without any other choice Maki followed her father’s last order and looked for Watari. L also accepts her; this girl came to him carrying a syringe that holds the virus. A group of people wanting to change the world by using the virus to rid of excess people, now chases them believing that Maki holds the virus and antidote within her. And the adventure begins!

It’s very weird to see “L” babysitting these kids. He even tried to please them too...
Okie... I’m gonna stop now before I say something that may really spoil you! So just watch it. I swear there still this suspense feeling that you would feel, like when you’re watch Death Note movie and anime!

Ken-ichi’s performance is really great, being able to embody a character like “L” seems hard it's so amazing to watch him (heh! I’m not a good actress you see, I can’t even pretend well). And the writers of the story I have to applaud too. They gave “L” a personality that wasn’t described in the manga/anime. The only thing I know about “L” during the anime was he’s very smart, likes sweets and doesn’t seem to know how to sleep. But here he seems more human.

This just occurred to me... Why did the film makers kill “L” in the Death Note movies? The decision of “L” of putting his name in the Death Note seems not like him. Maybe this is the reason why they made this spin-off that is oh so wonderful.

“No matter how gifted you are, you alone cannot change the world” – L
