Tia
Tia is the mamodo partner of pop superstar Megumi. She is very untrusting of other Mamodos because her best friend from the mamodo world tried to kill her once the Battle For King started. She first meets Zatch and starts to trust him at the Megumi concert when he fights Marus, and Zatch teaches her that not all the other mamodos are like Marus.
They then meet again in England when Zatch and Kiyo go to visit Kiyo's dad. Her specialty is defensive spells, so she is not very powerful in battle and often has to retreat. She is very friendly to people she trusts.
Kiyo Takamine
Kiyomaro, or Kiyo as he's commonly called in the English version, was a regular 14-year-old genius until his father found Zatch Bell on an archaeological trip. Zatch was dying, and Kiyo's father saved him. Feeling indebted, Zatch Bell said he would do anything to repay the favor, thus Professor Takamine asks Zatch to go and help his arrogant son Kiyo learn to make friends.
Before Kiyo was given Zatch, he really didn't have any friends because everyone thought that Kiyo acted like he was too good for them. Zatch started operation "Hero of Justice" and made Kiyo belive in himself.
Now Zatch and Kiyo work together to defeat other Mamodos and to win the battle to become king of the Mamodo world. Kiyo reads spells out of Zatch's book, which is also Zatch's link to Kiyo's world.
Zatch Bell
Zatch Bell was a Mamodo with no memory of who he was. His doll-like face and blue robe make him distinguishing. Found in London and cared for by Mr. Takamine, Zatch returned the favor by promising to help the man's son, Kiyo Takamine, overcome his socially awkwardness even if Kiyo was reluctant to have him around.
Once Zatch learned of his true nature, he was a bit scared at first, but Kiyo snapped him out of it. After the incident with the Mamodo Kolulu, Zatch vowed to be Mamodo King to ensure a happier life for his kind where they don't need to fight. Zatch does try to live a normal life, with the Vulcan-300 (Made by Kiyo from a French fry box and chopsticks) as his favorite toy. When Kiyo reads from Zatch's Red Book, it enables Zatch to shoot lightning out of his mouth ("Zakare"), among other spells.
New Anime: Zatch Bell!
One hundred Mamodo go to Earth every 1,000 years to battle to be the king of the Mamodo world. Each Mamodo needs a human partner in order to use his or her spell book, a book that seals the powers of the Mamodo. When read aloud, the spells are cast by the Mamodo producing many effects. If the spell book is burned, the Mamodo is forced to return to the Mamodo world, and they lose all claim to the position of the Mamodo king. While the spells in each book typically are different for each Mamodo, there are Mamodo that share spells, like Zatch Bell and his evil look-alike, Zeno Bell. The human and their Mamodo gain these spells through experience and hard work. The last Mamodo standing without their book burnt is the new Mamodo king.
The story follows, Kiyo Takamine, is a 14-year old boy in junior high school. His father, Seitaro Takamine, discovers an unconscious child named Zatch Bell while in a forest in England who then sends Zatch to live with Kiyo. Unlike the other Mamodo, Zatch lost his memory of the Mamodo world. Kiyo learns about the spell book when he reads a spell causing Zatch to fire lightning from his mouth (the spell is mentioned in the first episode). As Kiyo and Zatch begin to encounter different Mamodos and learn more about the Mamodo battles, they discover that there are those who do not wish to fight and there are those who fight for the wrong reasons. After meeting a Mamodo named Kolulu and seeing how this kind Mamodo was forced to fight due to the power of her spells, Zatch decides to become a kind king in order to stop the battle from ever happening again. As the story progresses, Zatch and Kiyo meet other Mamodos that share similar views to them and become allies.
