Stunned, Celeste stood perfectly still, letting the tears slide down her face. Her heart pounded and she couldn't breathe. Her mind spun around in wild circles. Suddenly, she became aware that he was gone.
"Wait!" she cried, running out the open door. She found herself in a bare stone hallway, with small, barred windows placed up high. However, her mind was not focused on that, but on finding her love, here in this barren place. But the long, cold hallway was empty.
"Dacian?" she called. No answer. Frantically, she raced down the hallway and turned the corner, only to find another corridor. Empty. How had he dissapered so quickly? Desperate now, Celeste turned down another hallway, then another, but he was gone, vanished into thin air.
Celeste dropped to her knees, fighting the urge to cry. Gone already. Of course, she had known he would leave, but after such a short time... already she wanted him back. No, "wanted" wasn't the word, it was more than that... desired, craved. Celeste took a deep, shaky breath. There was no time to think of that, but of getting out of here. Dacian had cut her bonds, but she was still trapped in this... this prison.
After managing to get to her feet, Celeste staggered along the hallway. She was still weak from being trapped, and running down all those hallways hadn't helped either. She tried to remember where she was. What had Angelo said? "The depths of heaven that no one goes to." Celeste's blood ran cold.
"The depths of heaven..." she knew all too well what that meant. In the beginning of time, during the great war between the Angels and the Devil, in the darkest, most twisted part of heaven, an enormus prison was built to hold the angels's prisoners. After the war, the prisoners were left to die. And they did die, all of them, and now the prison was spoken of only in scary stories told to frighten children. No one dared to go near it. It was that very prison that Celeste must be in now.
*Angelo must have been very brave to come here* she thought. *Or very stupid.*
Silently, she crept through the halls, one corner after another. It was like a maze; she could see no hope of getting out. Just as she was about to give up, she turned the last corner and, to her surprise, came to a great stone door set into the wall.
With trembling hands, Celeste used the last of her strength and pushed it open.
She peered at the outside through the crack...
And gasped with horror at what she saw.
