The Smurfs!

Here is my essay for English I did on The Smurfs:

Smurf Mania

Who couldn’t love those little blue creatures with their white hats? The Smurfs are a classic for many reasons. First, there are so many Smurf episodes, books, and collectors’ items that it would be hard for anyone not to know and love them. Also, The Smurfs are very original. Who else had thought of little blue humanoid creatures as characters? They have good life lessons worked into their cute little world that seem to be so easy to do. Lots of children and adults adore the Smurfs for good reason in every generation.

The Smurfs is a long series and they are well traveled. Starting off in Belgium, they spread through Europe and beyond. In every country they’ve arrived in, they are loved by all. There are Smurf toys, shirts, accessories, and more. Along with 421 episodes, there are 29 books in graphic novel format, and a new movie that just came out this year. Even in this new age, the Smurfs continue to be known and loved.

Smurf Village is a new kind of town. Its residents are little blue humanoid creatures with white clothes that live in mushroom-like houses. They are such an original idea, every Smurf even has his or her own identifiable personality and are named according to that main trait. They also have their very own pattern of speech. The creator, Peyo, came up with it while having a meal with a French friend of his. Peyo had forgotten the word “salt” in French so instead, asked his friend to pass the “schtrompf” (translated to Smurf in English), and so the language began. The Smurfs are an original idea no matter how you look at them.

“Do you want any help with that Papa Smurf?” The Smurfs are always assisting each other in any little way they can. Important life lessons are weaved into their daily life, such as helping out their fellow Smurfs. Good sportsmanship is another lesson the Smurfs practice. Also, whenever another Smurf gets sick or injured the rest of the village will try to help them out in getting better. They have a very tight-knit happy, helpful community.

Around since 1958, the little “two-apples-tall” Smurfs are impossible not to love. They come up everywhere, on T-shirts, mugs, plushies, and more. “That’s a smurfy idea!” their language and design can’t be found anywhere else. The life they live is so full of helping out each other that whoever sees them feels the need to help out others as well. I think The Smurfs are no doubt, a perfect addition to the Classics-Hall-of-Fame.

I don't know why I wanted to share this...oh well ^^ hope you all liked it!
