So yeah, looks like a total no-go on the outside work this summer. I can't get a single contact anywhere for landscaping crews—even the one I know is hiring—and the agency for the Country Club just seems to be a waste of time, but that means that the CC is probably contractually bound to hire through them, and so I can't do independent wrangling.
Bother.
So now I'm left with looking for waitering positions at places, and ironically I got an interview essentially as soon as I walked in the door for the first attempt. Cool, and good for me, so we'll see how this particular place works out. Only oddity is, about half the staff is homosexual and rather vocal about it on shift, so that'll be some interesting heads to get into.
Time to play the Card, I suppose.
In other news, I'm really excited: the local Hastings has Cowboy Bebop: Remix for sale, as well as all the GitS and Trigun and Tokko and dammit I forgot to check on Wolf's Rain. (I have so much I need to buy....) Spent over a hundred bucks today on six CDs, an amount I feel was completely justified. Got The Best of Dire Straits, stuff by Ok Go, Opeth, and Kamelot, a real CD to replace the burned ones in my Nightwish collection, and I'm currently listening to the Halo 3 soundtrack, which is quite nice and has kept me on the first disc for over ninety minutes now.

Comments from top to bottom
A_M: I don't think Lechers are limited to being kids. =P
Sabrina: It's not so much the Spring Cleaning bug as it is I'm tired of living in piles of paper, and I just so happen to get home in the spring. =P And you leave Beth alone.
Aaryanna: You could always rant about silly stuff. Like girls going bonk-o over boys.
SunfallE: Yeah, I'm noticing a disturbing trend with staffing agencies. I think I'll just do my own hunting from now on.
Indi: Yeah, maybe, but since it was essentially another not-sequiter every seven seconds, what's there to tell? Unless you were talking about that hotel/chaperoning bit, and that's not much of anything except me recalling details about scenery and what.
Shame on you for not watching GitS. My gosh.
Mimmi: It's not just English that bothers me. If I see something off in Spanish that I know is wrong (from what little I know), I feel twitchy. Hearing my second-year Spanish teacher ask us in all seriousness what "gato" meant was rather disheartening.
Just the other day, I saw a movie description on TV Guide that said "...when a teen starts making references to statnic rituals...."; I cringed out loud. Someone forgot to type right.
TwistedCyberChickWhoNeedsAShorterNicknameLikeMaybeJustChick: I would love to read The Maladventures of Cricket and Spud. I also completely understand the feeling keeping things in order gets you. I just . . . skip out some days.
SomeGuy: Don't forget Raquel Welch. (Mary Mother of God.)
And I'll get to the dissertation soon. That's a mess of alternate paths to take, though. Sheeez.
timefreak: I dislike telephone conversations in general, though I prefer them to e-mail. I'd rather talk face-to-face, since I can see more that way. But then I'm rather neurotic, so.
Nehszriah: Actually, I don't mind the "bitch" so much as I mind the "whore".
