Just tossin' this out here before I jet to check my forum and split.
We were out doing a Black Friday eat-out deal at Chili's (more on that later), and before we hit the restaurant my mother had to get her Goodwill fix and my sisters wanted to shoe shop *eyeroll*, so I used the opportunity to check out the GameStop nearby.
And I found Fire Emblem (Blazing Sword). SCORE.
I've been wanting to turn this series into fiction format basically since I first played it, but I wanted to start here because it was the first US release; I can get help translating the others when I . . . well, buy them, or find emulators for them. I've already gone through the prologue and taken notes in play format, so I might start a world for the roughs when I get going. It's hecka harder to get all the supports in this FE, though, so I'm in for a slog. BUT I DON'T CARE! (^_^)
Anyway, had the Smokehouse Triple-Cheese burger at Chili's. And lemme tell ya, they don't call their line "big mouth" for nothin'. You seriously have to have a cavern (like I do) to even eat the thing without cutting it up—they serve it with a steak knife. The bacon was applewood-smoked and about three times as thick as anything you cook for breakfast (unless you cut your own bacon), and I think it's safe to say that they weren't so much 'slices' or even 'slabs' as they were 'planks'. Massive blob of melted cheddar, provologne, and Swiss cheeses, diced sautéed onions, ranch-jalepeño sauce, mustard, and ketchup. Ye gods. What a burger.
Dessert was good too. But right now I want to get back to DMC3.
*p'EEAOW*
So today started out complete crap. Went to bed, woke up at exactly five-thirty blazing hot; got up and went out in the hallway to get a drink of water and immediately started shivering violently; recorded a message for my ride telling him to go ahead to church without me 'cause I just couldn't shake the darn sucker, then went back to bed; got up at six-thirty and thought about doing laundry so I'd at least get something done, then decided that if I was well enough to be moving around like that I was well enough to play, so I got ready and turned my phone on so I'd intercept my ride before he heard the message. =P
Main reason I wanted to go so badly this morning was because we were playing this:
...except with full choir, and a lot less bouncing around because Southern Baptists don't really do that. *eyeroll*
Quick aside for Ace: for the past two years I've been playing on a Griego 4 mouthpiece, which is nice and deep and rich, and works very well for my sound. For stuff like this, though, I tend to go back to the Schilke 51C4 I've had since high school—it's a symphonic bore mouthpiece, which means that it's got about a third of the metal in the stem and can get much louder much faster. Good for orchestral stuff. As good as the Griego sounds, I can't get the same bite to my sound without overblowing something nasty, so I pulled the Schilke out so I could cut through the thirty-odd-piece (solid) choir we have.
Look into Griego if you get a change. Them and Giddings & Webster are great lines; Griego is a bit less 'spensive, but G&W is sterling silver, which is like this amazing cushion of happy for your chops. Personally, I can't stand the Bach or Stork lines; they make me feel cramped, and since I have a really full embouchure (I can fit an entire french horn mouthpiece inside the red), these slightly bigger mouthpieces work a lot better for me.
Anyway, the only complaint I have with this choir is actually their strong point. They are a good, solid, classically trained choir (except for the few rote-singers), and because of that they sung the chart like . . . well, like white people. You listen to the chart above and you hear a slightly different linguistic touch to words; just a little more punch in certain places. Our choir tends to be more smooth, like this:
"Oh tha-at me-en would pra-aise Hi-is na-ame, would pra-aise Hi-is name to the e-ends of the e-earth/"
And the New Breed, though they still hold some stuff as long, are more like:
"Oh that. men. would praise His. name., would praise His. name. to the e-ends of the ea-h'earth/"
...with a rearticulation there on 'earth'. Subtle things, but in music subtle things can change a piece's mood drastically.
Still, heck of a fun chart to lead with. (And bless his heart, my ride, who plays trumpet, just doesn't have the personality to get any bite in his tone. Silly kid.)
Anyway, got another rehearsal for the Christmas gig in less than an hour. I don't think we have anything quite so pumped lined up for that one, though. Ah, well.
Oh, and I have felt steadily better all day. So there is that. ....just popped my ear blowing my nose. o_O
And I need more turtlenecks. Both because they're very warm and because it seems the look of a leather jacket over one agrees with me very well. (Narcissus, get awaaayyyy....)
Massive sore throat of doom.
And it's frilling cold outside. As in, I'm quoting Dr. Evil, it's so frikkin' cold. Like I've been cryogenically frozen for the past thirty years.
I have to see if I can swallow food now.
My sister is an art major at a college not far from this one, and she decided to make me a card for my birthday this year.
As in, she made it. I can see the watercolor and oil textures. It's sweet.

I laughed at me being the square. I laughed even more at being squished in the third panel.
Did I mention my sister is amazing at art?
