Spain sighed, twisting the towel so the excess water dripped out into the sink. Romano wasn’t feeling well and he was acting really weird. Weird as in incredibly-hyper-just-ate-a-bowl-of-sugar-three-Red-Bulls-and-twelve-espressos-hyper weird. He wondered if it had anything to do with his sky-high fever as he recalled Romano almost bouncing off the walls of the villa.

“Roma? How are you feeling?” The older brunette walked in the sea-view room and was met with blissful silence. The Italian had lost his energy and crashed onto the king-sized bed. He didn’t even react to the cool breeze that was blowing in through the open windows.

Ah, perfect. Silently as possible, Spain set the tray of orange juice, tomato soup and crackers onto the nightstand and sat down next to the passed out nation. However, he couldn’t resist smoothing down Roma’s hair (taking great care not to touch his flyaway curl). He felt terrible for the poor boy; extra energy wasn’t something he usually possessed. At least now he was finally resting.

España...” Romano murmured, turning his back to the Spaniard who nearly exploded from the sheer adorable-ness. Roma never called him by his name! He usually called him “Spain” or “Spagna” or more than anything else: “Tomato bastard” sometimes with the “tomato” part omitted. “España” was never said! Ever!

“...bastardo...”

And the adorable-ness level just fell. Well, at least he called me by my actual name and he’s sleeping.

Mumbling in his sleep again, the younger latched onto Spain’s sleeve, saying something along the lines of “don’t leave me alone...”

What seemed like a sweet moment quickly turned sour as Romano started sweating and panicking, almost punching Spain and knocking over the tray.

“Roma! Roma!” Leaping into action, Spain quickly shook Romano, trying to awaken him from his nightmare. “ITALY ROMANO!”

With his full name being shouted, Romano shot up and clutched onto his former guardian’s shoulders, crying out “Spain!” between his ragged gasps for air. “Spain, don’t leave!” He rasped, burying his face into the soft red fabric of Spain’s shirt. “Don’t ever leave me!”

Wrapping his arms around the sobbing nation, Spain rested his chin on Romano’s head, rubbing his hands in small circles to calm him down. Of course his nightmare was about him leaving; that was the sole thing he was truly terrified of.

“I promise, mi cielo.” He swore, kissing the brunette’s forehead. “Nothing will ever tear me away from your side.”
