A Simple Conversation

“This your favorite spot to chill?”

Nearly dropping my ramen, I looked down. A 15 year old was leaning against the tree, smiling so hard it looked like it hurt, and glancing up at me. I looked at him not knowing what to think. He didn’t look like any of the fans that followed me around, but there was always a chance he could be a new one. Dang, and this was a place that wasn’t known to my fans.

“It is,” I sighed, “because my fans don’t know about it.”

The guy started laughing and when I looked at him, it came to me. How could I’ve not noticed when I had seen him with Narumi? Somewhere in Oto, my parents were shaking their head at my forgetfulness.

“It’s Raijin, isn’t it?”

His grin, if possible, widened even more. “Yeah! Raijin Kumonari, at your service!” he gave an exaggerated bow like the one with Narumi.

I smiled a little, “Melodie Himitsu,” and placed my ramen to the side. Raijin looked overjoyed at my response and I worried about the condition of his smiling mouth. “Don’t smile that hard, it looks like your mouth is about to break off.”

“Oops,” Raijin laughed and put an arm behind his head, “it seems that I overdid it in the smile department.”

I had no idea why he was suddenly talking to me but I couldn’t think on it now, because it was time to head back to class. Putting my lunch and my book inside my bag I carefully yet easily climbed back down the tree, landing in front of Raijin with a light tap and turned to walk away.

“Can I walk with you?” he asked eagerly, happy that I had talked with him. “I mean, we’re in the same class,” he started fidgeting, “but I mean, if you don’t want to—”

“Walk with me.” I started heading back to the Academy, hearing a cheerful “Whoop!” as Raijin dashed to my side.

The fan boys crowded around me the instant I came into view but screeched to a stop when they saw Raijin. Scowls crossed their face as I heard their hushed conversations:

“First Narumi and now Melodie! He’s trying to take her away from us!”

“Who does he think he is?”

“He’s trying to become her boyfriend!”

That last comment did it. Stopping in my tracks I openly glared at my fans. “Raijin is not trying to be my boyfriend nor am I looking for one. I thought that you all had at least the smallest shred of sense in your body, but I can see that I’m wrong.” Their reactions were either floored that I had spoken that much or quailing from the guilt.

Aware that Raijin was staring with a comically open mouth, I strode into the Academy like an empress, wondering why my fans didn’t have a brain and why someone didn't tell them sooner.

Props to Melodie! Someone needed to put those fans in their place…not that they’ll listen for a long period of time. Honestly…
