Well yaoi is BL or boyxboy romance. It's not really yaoi although most of the characters are hot guys and there lots of innuendos but nothing romantic really happens. There is a lot of yaoi fan fiction and fan art for Hetalia but in the anime it is mostly for comedic purposes.

I would love to be your friend and Hetalia is about countries that are personified into people based on historical events and stereotype's. Its a little hard to explain, but its a comedy that makes fun of history. If you get offended easily by stereotypical jokes then I would not recommend watching it, but if you don't mind that then its pretty funny.
