    My step mom believes that the displays and events are too INAPPORPIATE for me as of age 12 she says that she has seen exposing items at comic con but anime expo is a different event I want to go but she says that she would never take my three year old brother but I honestly just want to take my dad because he is confused about the anime idea and I would love for him to witness my world but I don't want him to get the wrong idea and my friend wants to go with me plus we would already be in LA for my sister so why not spend 100 dollars more on tickets for me and my dad it would be a good experience but I guess there is my step mom saying it is too INAPPORPIATE for my age little does she know there are 4 year old cosplayers and THE COSPLAYING IS NOT ALL THE EVENT but then I think maybe she is right maybe there is only grown up things to do BUT I WANT TO EXPERIENCE MY FIRST CON WITH MY BFF and dad

    I think I'll end up showing this to my non-otaku friends (all my friends, that is) so they can understand the (and I quote) "backwards chinese comics" that I read.
    Many thanks!!!

    @OtakuGirl77:

    Hmm, let me think on this a little bit, and I'll give you (and everyone else) a list of the points she'll probably come up with and some counter points to try using. It all depends on the parents, but a lot of parents will respect their kids if they make good arguments and show that they are putting mature thought into their decisions.

    How far away is it from your home town? Will you need to get a hotel room? Most conventions also require a parent onsight at your age, so you'll be needing to convince her or your father to attend with you.

    Hey need some help, my mom doesn't want me going to toronto from my hometown to go t anime north. she thinks it's dangerous and pointless "to spend a weeked in a costume you'll only wear once"! i want some advice on how t convince her i'm not a little girl (13) and i CAN do a weeekend if she lets me! i would buy a costume!, or just go as a plainly obsessed otaku fan! i want t see the cool stuff, try some dtuff and cosply the most! the one prob is i'm the only one in my fam who is a otaku, so i said i'd go with a friend, she stil says no! so gimme some help on convincing her that this tuff is worth wild!!

    Nothing makes parents cave like showing them you put some forethought into your request! Being able to counter their questions before they even ask them can help alot.

    This is a really good guide. I always go to anime conventions with my dad; and, he insists on staying with me all day long--it can actually be really cool to have your parents along. I mean, seriously, I got my dad into Noein and Bleach!!

    I am most certainly going to bring this up with my parents if there is ever a con near by. Not only would my younger brothers like to go, but now my parents would know what to do with themselves if they came along.

    This is definitely going to be used as a weapon on my side to help them cave. C;

    Thanks for posting!

    Thank you for posting this up! I was hopfully planning to go to a con in August, so maybe showing this to my mom might be a good idea (even though she probably won't come into the con with me, but it still might be a good idea). Good work on this.

    lol i'm sure my parents would've liked to have seen this last year at my first convention (they were those relunctant parents that were forced to chaperone, they wanted to hold a sign up that would read "brought here by force by my annoying teenage daughter" lol it was pretty funny) but i have to say, you make some good points. i remember there being a few little little kids just screaming their heads off, and when you're trying to shove your way through to get that last boot-leg dvd of death note and that baby is screaming in your ear, that is not a good thing. lol

    I love this guide. I'll show it to my parents before we go to my first anime convention so they know I'm not the only one who thinks this is how it should go. ^_^
