well, know that I don't use photoshop. I use MS Paint and HP Image zone. I draw the lineart, scan it, and with Hp IZ I turn it purely black and white (no grays). I open it in MS paint, color and shade the subject. When I'm done, I turn the blank background some crazy color that's not already in use in the piece, like orange. Copy and paste the entire image over a background you want. Remember to make the orange see-through (click selection tool, right click the color orange and change setting to transparent). It's sort of like layers in photoshop. I promised I'd make a tutorial for someone but I've been lazy... :(
