Hetalia episode 21

ASDFHQWHGADS. Just when Canada appeared and I thought Hetalia could not get any better, guess what? It did.
After all those episodes of silence, Chibitalia makes its triumphant return. The print version's ending was severely compressed for space, and up to now, that was apparently the ending that the anime was using too. Thankfully, now you, too, can witness the tearjerkery of the original web version's finale (although it's "to be continued" to next week).

If you've studied your history, of course you'll know how the relationship between young Italy and Holy Roman Empire must end, but that does not make it even a tiny bit less mindbreakingly sad. It's no wonder that so many fans believe Germany to be a grown-up, amnesiac Holy Roman Empire- the alternative is just too horrible to contemplate.

Sea-kun! I'll admit it, I'm a fan of Sealand, and it's not just because he's a blondish shota who runs around in a sailor uniform. It's mostly because he reminds me how recently it was that another one of England-no-yarou's colonies starting jumping around and calling itself a country, and that no one acknowledged that country's sovereignty at first either. And there's just something about the image of Sealand floating alone in the ocean, wondering if England-no-yarou still remembers him, that seems oddly touching to me.
I have no idea why they use The Blue Danube as Sealand's theme music, though.

I'm...probably the only one who watched this and hoped Sealand would be eating an ice lolly instead of a milkshake (or whatever that bizarre green liquid he's drinking is). Of all the times to not take artistic license, Studio DEEN, why now? Yeah, you could draw him drinking some manner of beverage as in the original drawings, or you could draw him sucking a frozen treat and get considerably better DVD sales. I am saying this because damn it, if straight guys can complain on their blogs about the lack of fanservice in Kanon, I can complain about the lack of Sealand eating Popsicles. At least until the 4chan party van comes for me, anyway.
I just love the perfectly blank stare Sealand has at the start of the acknowledgement sketch. It's fine as a single establishing panel, but when it's displayed over an extended voice-over, it gets creepy as all get-out.
(I thought Mafioso-types were supposed to have good fashion sense, but Romano appears to be wearing a bright teal suit with an equally bright pink tie. Wherever he buys his suits, he should never go there ever again.)

This made me smile.
