Video games are one of the most popular and addictive forms of entertainment today. Everyone from any age can enjoy all types of games these days. Plus, video games of all forms; arcade machines, cell phone games, computer games, and platform games; are found almost everywhere. They are categorized into many different classifications such as ratings, platform, and genre. Coming from a video game addict like myself, gaming experiences depend on the console the owner has. At the moment, Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's Playstation 3, and Nitendo's Wii are in tight competition with each other. Each platform offers different services, forms of entertainment, and gaming experiences special to the console.
The Xbox 360, my personal favorite, offers the widest range of services and game genres. Xbox Live is the console's most popular feature, which allows gamers to compete with others from across the globe. (I have it, love it, and I want more friends on there!) With Xbox Live, a gamer can download demos, trailers, full games, pictures, videos, and shows through the Dashboard. Netflix joined the list of Xbox features, and now people can order movies to watch on their console too. The Xbox allows gamers to hook up the console to their computer and access the computer's music, picture, and video files. In addition, it downloads Windows Media Center to console in order to IM others straight off the platform instead of the computer itself. If one wants a great game to play on the 360, Halo 3, the biggest selling Xbox 360 game and my favorite game, usually ranks high on peoples' list of favorite games. Expected big hits coming to the Xbox 360 are Assassin's Creed 2 and Final Fantasy XIII, although the 360 dominates with action and shooter games. The 360's beautiful graphics contributes to its success, but Playstation 3 fans rave that the PS3's graphics surpasses the 360's graphics, which I agree to myself.
Sony's Playstation 3 is famous because of its remarkable graphics, but other prominent features help the console gain fame. Players are able to access and control their Playstation's through a Wi-Fi network. Instead of Netflix, gamers can play Blu-ray disks on their console; in addition, the platform can upgrade the quality of any ordinary DVD. Through the Playstation Network, the gamers can have free Internet access on their console (a reason not to own a computer). Unlike Xbox Live where someone has to pay around sixty dollars to play online for a year, PS3 gamers have free access to the console's online gaming system. In order to recharge wireless controllers, one plugs it into any USB port. In my opinion, the console's biggest reasons for its large sales are legendary the Final Fantasy games (the only reason I want to buy it myself) and other RPG games. Unfortunately, both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 do not have the Wii's famous gameplay.
The Nitendo Wii offers a very different use of gameplay though remote control simulators. For example, when a gamer wants to punch their opponent, instead of tapping the A button furiously, they actually jab their hand as if they are punching the opponent themselves. Other motion sensor controllers can allow driving, sense vitality signs, "shoot" things, and even weigh you. Another feature that makes the Wii stand out from other consoles, the ability to watch TV channels on the system. Parental controls allow parents to block games, Internet sites, and channels according to the ratings. When it comes to games, the Wii has plenty more puzzle and friendly interactive games than the action games. Its big sellers: Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda. (Oh, how I want to play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess so badly.) Right now, the Wii has top sales in the console market; consequently, it carries a hefty price tag on it.
Do not misunderstand the fact that those are the only platforms out in the market today. The other popular consoles are hand held systems though: the PSP (Playstation Portable), Nitendo DS, and Gameboy Advance. Overall, the home based platforms sell the most. A genre of games usually sell to a certain system most of the time. The Playstation 3 has a majority of the role playing games and racing games. The Xbox 360 has plenty of first person shooter games, action games, and horror games. The Wii picks up many games that involve strategy, puzzles, and sense interactive games; and it gets role playing games too. Fortunately, it shows that anyone can pick up a controller, even Wii's infamous flying remote control; and enjoy a game where zombies are stalking you from the dark or where you are virtually bowling with your family.
I will go to that concert despite dad's disapproval! I'm 18 and about to be home owner! I refuse not to sit back and let this opportunity roll by! If I just let it lie down, I'll live in regret! I'll save up my own money too! And if I don't get enough by September, then oh well, I'll just have more money for a 2 week trip, that way I won't live in regret! My brother moved to Wyoming despite his disapproval! All I want is a 5 day trip to Japan! Sure he's scared that I'm a girl all alone in another country, but what happens happens!
Alright, ever since the trip to New Orleans and our old hometown, my dad has been suffering from post traumatic disorder, or what they call this one, Post-Katrina Depression. Well now he blows up at every little thing! From me not making mashed potatoes, to the friends I have. EVERYTHING. Pisses me off soooo badly. Today, me and my brother wanted to go home instead ride 15 mins into town with him to get a 6 pack of beer. He got furious and took off saying that he doesn't give a shit about us and he may not be back to get me to practice because I'm not important. Like WTF?! In my opinion, he's been telling himself that he blows up at everything so much, that now he belives it and enforces it like a bad habit. Some psychological mental disorder -_-
He went as far as to tell me that I'm all fucked up because I'm friends with the people around here, and that I'll be here the rest of my life with 3 grandkids by the time I'm 30 or something. I'm just trying to have fun, like he always wanted us to do! It's a lose lose situation. I make friends and he hates them; I shut myself off, he complains I don't have a social life.
Earlier around February, when me and my brother were signing up for college, he told us we can do whatever we want, but just last week, he blew up saying that if we ain't working at least 40 hours a week, we better go to summer classes. This infuriates me because I already signed up to start in the Fall semester, so now I have to go back and re-register.
Shit, he's home =_=
**EDIT**
WTF he has the mood swings of my bipolar mother! He came in acting like nothing happened and all joyous and creepy crap
