So in all honesty I have no idea what to really expect from this game. I know you get to play as Riku and Sora. That Lea/Axel is somehow involved. That The World Ends With You is referenced openly, though I never finished that game. Whoops. There's been talk that this is essentially Kingdom Hearts 3. And that is totally cool with me. I mean, Birth by Sleep was pretty plot heavy too. This is the first game I've played/owned for the 3DS... so that should be... different. From here on out there's gonna be a ton of spoilers. So travel with caution.

• I boot up the game, and right way we’re into the nicely animated opening. I have the 3D set low, but it does give it some lovely depth.
• Anyway, I’m a mess watching the opening. Because I’m a sap for the Simple and Clean orchestra.
• Also, the bottom screen is a 2D Mickey Mouse orchestrating it, ala Fantasia.
• This gorgeous piece of artwork is the title screen art, and I’m a sucker for KH watercolory type art, so this makes me super happy. The 3D has it so that Sora is kinda floating above Mickey and Riku.
• Also? Is Mickey gonna be a big part in this game? Because that’d be cool, as Mickey tends to be on the side lines and only pops up at the last moment.
• Um okay, starting in standard mode!
• Braig! Braig! I love you! And a passed out Even and Ienzo? And they’re in the room where there’s the computer for Tron in Radiant Garden Castle (is there a better name for that?)? And Xehanort?
• And now Riku! And Sora! On a beach! In KH1 clothes!
• And in a storm….
• ON A RAFT?!
• Riku gets knocked off and is all like, “I’m fine!”
• But THEN THERE IS A WHIRLPOOL AND NO YOU AREN’T!
• AND URSULA?! What… I don’t… does this make Riku Prince Eric?
• Sora’s wondering if this is a test, but Riku is like, “stfu and hit her with a blunt object!”
• And now we learn how to fight! Which is basically the same as BBS, oh! and we get to fight alongside Riku.
• So we beat Ursula and Riku was no help! And then we get knocked off the raft!
• And the thing says this is our final test for the Mark of Mastery?
• BUT HOW DOES THAT MATTER WHEN WE’RE DROWNING!?
• Or… there’s a keyhole, of course.
• But even half dead Riku and Sora manage to unlock it and now they’re golden?
• Look, I’m a bit of an expert on KH but half the time it doesn’t make any sense.
• The keyhole eats us… and we white out…
• CREPPY BROWN CLOAK GUY!
• And it wants us to see a flashback? But somehow I skipped it?
• From the future, I found a way to rewatch it from the menu! Here goes!
• So, Xehanort was a super special Keyblade Master. But he was consumed by the question “what is the essence of the human heart that weakens us or empowers.” Um… love? Nope, apparently he though the answer was the “Keyblade War.” Or… that the Keyblade War was a map about the battle of light and darkness in everyone? I… augh GAME WHY YOU NO MAKE SENSE.
• So Xehanort game up being a master and chose to become a seeker? Look, I know you like to pretend you had all of this stuff figured out from day one but there is NO WAY UNTIL YOU WROTE THIS PART THAT YOU HAD ANY PLANS OF HAVING “ANSEM, SEEKER OF DARKNESS” MEAN ANYTHING MORE THAN “ANSEM, THAT DOUCHE WHO LIKES DARKNESS.”
• But Xehanort is still around apparently, and now Sora and Riku are undergoing their MOM to become masters. And though they’re pretty awesome, being self-taught, but Yen Sid says to throw that all away and relearn.
• Sora’s ticked, because SERIOUSLY HE’S SAVE THE WORLD HOW MANY TIMES AND HE DID AN OKAY JOB OF IT! SO DID MICKEY AND RIKU!
• Riku’s not sure though. Oh… he thinks there’s still darkness in his heart… that it still has a hold. Baby, that’s 1) life 2) being a douchebag for a major part of your life. That’s gonna happen.
• Riku thinks he still need to be tested, doesn’t think he’s ready for the responsibility that comes with having a keyblade. And kiddo, I love you so much for actually saying that and acting like a mature 16 year old.
• Sora gets sad because HE IS A MALE PROTAGIONIST WITH FEELINGS! (And that is such a relief from all the media I’ve been consuming lately. Batboys/girls, Winchester brothers and a pack of teen wolfs are not healthy when it comes to FEELINGS.) So Sora says he’ll get tested too, if only to prove that he and Riku can handle it. Bless.
