Unusual with a drop of blood

The high trees in the forest I swear could touch the clouds, funny thing was when I got up there I was no where near the sky. Goes to show you something about perspective, eh? I flitted through some others and made my way through some other branches in another tree. I looked out to the cloudy sky, it was a beautiful, overcast, winter day and the breeze felt so good even though it was cold out already, not to me. I could see the whole town and even further, my town was pretty small, just some shops, schools, homes, and one tiny mall. The lake had a dim glimmer to it and I spotted a person walking through the forest. “Crap.” I said under my breath, recognizing who it was. I climbed up higher, hoping to not be seen. “Hey!! I know you’re here, Cam!!” he called loudly, I winced at the use of my nickname, I hated him calling me that, but it was just Frank, can’t blame him. I looked over to the other tree, maybe I could get there and he won’t hear me. I leaped to it and grabbed the thickest branch I saw and climbed onto it; he turned his head and looked around. Soon, while climbing up, my foot missed a branch and I slipped a bit, making even more noise. He spotted me and his eyes got wide, “Whoa, dude, are you planning to kill yourself, Cameron?!” he screamed and ran to the bottom of the tree. I smirked, he really did, now, think I was suicidal. I got back up and continued climbing, “How’d you get up there, these trees are so huge and round at the bottom, you can’t wrap your arms around them at all.” He pointed out. I ignored him and kept on my way up, I knew why he was here; he was pissed out of his mind. I jumped to another tree and grabbed a branch, but as I climbed up it I heard some snapping noise and then gravity took over. I gasped and grabbed at the air, kicking my feet and I was lucky, I caught a big tree limb and smiled and let out a sigh of relief. “Cam, are you okay?” he called and ran to the tree I was now in. I looked down to him, “Yeah, I’m alright.” I said; a smile on my pale face, not pale from being startled, pale because I just am. I sat down on the branch, my back leaning on the tree trunk and my feet dangling, I rubbed my hand through my thick pale blonde hair. “Whew, that was a close one. I really thought I was going to fall that time, ha-ha!” I said; Frank looked up, trying to figure out why I was up here anyways. “Hey, why don’t you come down, I need to tell you something anyways and I don’t feel like screaming it out.” He said and I made my way down slowly, making sure my shirt and jeans didn’t get caught on anything like twigs, leaves, and branches. I jumped down the rest of the way and walked to him, “What?” I asked; Frank just looked around, “You said you had something to tell me!” I yelled to get his attention. Gosh is his ADD annoying, it makes him space out and crap like that. He looked to me, “Oh, sorry, you don’t have to yell. Well, anyways, about that girl at school you’re always hanging with, what’s her name?” he asked; I looked at him like he was stupid, he knew her name, he just didn’t like her so pretended not to remember her at times, “Her name’s Cassie. What about her?” I asked; he smiled a bit, well, the jock, Jake, keeps trying to get her to go out with him, she keeps declining and I heard he’s about ready to force her, apparently he wants to get on your nerves that way.” He said, I was staring at the floor by the time I heard his name, he was the most annoying kid there and yet he was liked by all the kids there, but 4, Frank, Cassie, Desmond, and me. I walked away from Frank, looking at the ground as I went; my shoes beat up from all climbing I’d done. “Where do you think you’re going?” Frank asked me; I turned to him, “Home. I need to think about things.” I told him, starting to walk faster. I could hear him walking behind me so I broke out into a full-speed run. Everything looked like a blur I was going so fast, flitting through the forest to the town. I looked back, and Frank just stood there, mouth agape and eyes wide, he never knew everything about me; and not being totally human was one thing he’d never known about me. I soon reached my house, no one there but me ever since my parents died, and I ran to my room and laid on the bed, my face buried into the pillows. ‘Why can’t Jake just leave me and my friends alone?’ I thought as I took my phone out from my pocket, it was vibrating and I looked at the caller ID, it was Cassie. I flipped it open and paused for a sec, “Hey.” I said in a monotone, not really wanting to talk to anyone. “Hi, has Frank told you yet?” she asked; I sighed, “Yeah. Jake’s an idiot for trying. He knows you hate him, he just wants to get on your nerves and mine.” I said, slightly explaining what Frank had said, but she knew it better than any of us how it was. I could hear some noises in the background, it sounded like music. “So, are we gonna do anything about it, or are we just gonna wait till I beat the living crap outta him?” she asked with a bit of a laugh, “Actually beating him up sounds like fun, and it’d make him look like a total wuss, being beat up by a girl.” I said, she laughed, as did I. "So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" she said, I smiled a bit, "Yeah, bye." I said and hung up.

Vampires Will Never Hurt You

The sun went down and they were around us, those vampires; the wretched creatures that we hate. Standing back to back, spikes in hand, we lunged out towards them. I got the holy water from my jacket pocket and threw it at them like cheap whiskey. They recoiled in pain and burned. One came and grabbed me, I pushed my stake through its chest, and it went red and growled and screamed in pain. Then that’s when I saw it happen, one was near you getting ready to bite you. “No!” I screamed and threw my fist at the vampire, landing it right on the gruesome creature’s face, it stumbled back. I took you into my arms, “Are you okay?” I asked, you looked at me, your blue eyes gleaming and your long dark hair flowed as a breeze went by. “Yes, thank you.” You told me. The rest of the living vampires moved in closer, they were looking at us with their red eyes, malice in them, not a trace of their old human form except their bodies. “I’ll never let them hurt you, not tonight.” I said and we sprang back into the battle, you turned on your UV light and shone it at the two in front of you and I staked another one, but I missed its heart and that’s when the worst would happen. It looked up at me, its own blood dripping from its mouth and it had a twisted and insane smile on its face. The vampire’s fangs gleamed in the dark night and he rushed at me, heading for my neck. You were done with the five that surrounded you and turned to see me and it had bitten me. My eyes went wide and I let out a groan, you came to my side and crushed a glass cylinder of holy water on its face. It screamed and then you pushed my stake through his chest. I dropped to the floor and you thought I was dead, I could hear you crying and calling my name over and over again. You leaned next to me and I brought my hand up, you smiled and picked me up, “Take me to a doctor or a church, they need to pump this venom gaping hole.” I whispered, my voice shaking; you nodded and ran to the nearest church, but the vampires had burned it down knowing one of us would be caught by one of them. You began running to the hospital and once we got in there you could tell I was losing myself. “Help him please, he’s been bitten by a vampire!” You shouted, running up to the first doctor you found in the ER room. He nodded and took me from you and carried me to another room. I blacked out and they said I died twice and they got me back. You came in and looked at me, I was extremely pale already and my canine teeth were already a little longer, “We did all we could for him.” Said the doctor, you clenched my shirt and cried, I brought my hand up, the stake in it, and gave it to you, “Can you stake my heart, will it wash away this jet black feeling?” I asked; you looked at me, your teary eyes filled with fear. I pulled my shirt up and you put the stake to my chest and hesitated, “I can’t.” you said, I just lifted my hand up to your face and wiped away a tear and stroked your hair out of your eyes, “Please. I love you. Can you stake my heart?” I asked, you nodded and pressed down. My eyes widened and I bit my lip to suppress a cry of pain, but it didn’t work. I screamed and clenched the sides of the bed. Then everything started going dark and I could hear you, “I’m so sorry, I love you.” You said; I then took in a deep breath, “I’ll never let them hurt you.” I said and then everything went black as I exhaled my last breath I heard you cry and the last thing I felt was you clutching my hand.
