Character Drawcember Week 1 Compilation

I'm participating in some Character Drawcember challenge that's going on on tumblr, so here's the stuff I drew for this past week! :M I didn't draw everything that was requred, but oh well.

WEEK ONE (Dec 1-7)
Sketch…
…a protagonist

I chose Noland for this, even though he's not really a true protagonist. :V

And these are the buttlong footnotes I included:
I’m not really sure if Noland’s a protagonist because his story doesn’t really have a hero or enemy or anything like that, but he is the main character of the story about him and Chrystal, called Teach Me Something Good. I wanted to split the main character role between him and Chrystal evenly, but… I’m just… I don’t know what to do with high school characters. orz Right now, I want at least a 60%-40% split between Noland and Chrystal, as far as the main character role goes. Not that I even do anything with these characters because I don’t WRITE OR DRAW COMICS OFTEN ENOUGH GAH.

BUT YEP. Noland Strong. That one puffy-haired blushy English teacher dude that I always draw. I’m not too sure how popular these kinds of characters are, but I’m usually pretty interested in these sort of delicate male characters. I don’t think he’s a particularly “weak” male character, but he’s much more focused on his emotions and personal things than… idk, a guy character like Gabe, for instance. And then in contrast, Prue is someone who doesn’t often focus on her own emotions and own experiences. In some ways, I’m aiming for a sort of gender role reversal when it comes to Noland and Prue as characters; but at the same time, it’s supposed to be subtle and natural, rather than be a jarring opposite characterization. (? idk. I’m usually not very successful in my attempts at BEING A COOL CHARACTER PERSON, but there you go.)

Noland’s storyline in Teach Me Something Good is something like his difficulty coping with an adult lifestyle, and difficulty understanding/handling the boundaries between childhood and adulthood—most of this shown through his friendship with Chrystal. Even though it takes place in 2013 (when he’s 33 years old), there’s also a lot of reference to his college life and relationship with Stefan. I intend to use Noland as a “coming of age” character in Teach Me Something Good, even though he’s already technically an adult.

There’s actually a separate story that comes afterTeach Me Something Good that I haven’t named, which is about Noland and Prue. After Teach Me Something Good (which takes place over the span of Chrystal’s senior year in high school), Noland more or less stops being the protagonist, and the point of view then switches to Prue. This story would also expand a little bit on Noland’s childhood in Georgia, but it would be heard from Prue’s perspective when said by Noland. Or something like that.

And yep. By the way, I hate drawing legs. WILL I KEEP DOING FULL BODY SKETCHES FOR THIS DRAWCEMBER THING? STAY TUNED AND FIND OUT.

…an antagonist
…an old character you don’t use anymore, and then redesign them.

I didn't have time to do an antagonist, but since Falorin is both an old character and an antagonist, I guess she counts for both. :^D; Might still try to do the antagonist drawing I wanted, though!

And the footnotes (I'm calling Falorin "he" in these because I wasn't too sure about the gender change at that point. I also mentioned some of this in the drawing I posted of her, too. xD;):
CRAZY POSE! This might have to count as my “antagonist” drawing, too, if I don’t get around to drawing it. :V

Anyway, this is my old character, Falorin Halloway. I have an old profile of his here. For Falorin’s new outfit, I wanted to do something less Fire Emblem-y, so I googled 16th century clothing for inspiration or whatever. The only thing that came out 16th century-ish is the collar, but… OH WELL…

I used to draw Falorin for a story I had called My Dear Princess, which was a Fire Emblem-esque fantasy about a princess, her servant, their friends/group of fighters, and the mystery surrounding the emergence of a new country from nowhere. (??? Idk, it never made much sense to me, either.)

Falorin here was the antagonist of the story, and the prince of the “mysterious new country” called Endergia, The Phantom Country. Faloring was really one of the only characters I liked from that story… Just everything surrounding him and his country was really cool, to me! *U* He and his country were summoned by someone (??? SUMMONED FROM THE ~*~DARKNESS~*~ OR SOMETHING), so Falorin literally doesn’t have a past. He’s just. POOF. He’s there, and he’s “born” knowing he’s the prince/ruler of this new. But what’s interesting about his country is that it can only be populated by ghosts (??? idk why, that’s just… yeah, this story has a lot of holes), so he spends a lot of time going around and killing people to “recruit ghosts” into his country.

Okay, so killing people isn’t really interesting. But anyway, because Falorin can talk to and see ghosts, he can’t conceptualize death in any way besides “dead = person ‘lives’ in Endergia.” He gets the idea that he’s doing something that makes people upset, but he can’t grasp the full weight of his actions. He’s also poor at empathizing, but knows how to mimic behaviors/act in order to appear to have a certain disposition. Yeah. his natural disposition is extremely apathetic.

I feel like I’m not saying anything of value, here, so I’ll just stop. xD; I’M SORRY I’M SO DISORGANIZED…
Also, I’m strangely tempted to make Falorin a girl. Hm, hm… hm.

Finish one of these into a full-color piece.
I posted that here! 8D Yep.

Well, that's what I've done for week 1 of Drawcember. Hopefully I can get some of the week 2 stuff done in between my finals stuff. ;u;/
