Walkthrough: How To Pretend You Can Draw Guys

This is a walkthrough on how I draw guys! :V And just how I sketch in general.

A lot of artists seem to have trouble drawing guys, so I thought I'd try and throw some stuff out there on how I do it. I mean, I'm definitely not a pro at drawing guys, but I definitely have an easier time drawing guys than I do girls.
It's not really a tutorial, but I give some extremely weird tips on anatomy that may or may not be true, and show you my weird drawing process.
Also, if you are mortified by shirtless guys, then this walkthrough is probably not for you.

ANYWAY, ONWARD!

I drew Gabe for this walkthrough-thing, which you can't tell initially. :V By the way, each of these steps were done on a different layer, with the previous step visible underneath at around 30% opacity. (Except the head, which was on a separate layer from everything and set at 100% the whole time.)

The first thing I do is draw a gesture sketch, so I can get an idea of the pose.

This is a random little note: when I draw the shoulder line curving up, I tend to draw the hip line curving down (or vise versa). Poses that I draw where the shoulder and hip line are curving the same way sometimes feel off balance.
Anyway, since this is Gabe, I gave him a sort of short torso. I usually eyeball it, but what I consider a short torso to be is like... a head and a half? Something like that. I don't usually draw people the correct head-to-height ratio, though; my people usually come out around 6-6.5 heads tall instead of 7. (Translation: idk my anatomy is crazy.)

I like to draw the head on a separate layer right off the bat, so I can resize it and stuff once I get to the body. :V BECAUSE I DRAW CRAZY SIZED HEADS, OKAY...

Then I block in some vague shapes. Gabe's torso is two trapezoids stacked on top of each other, the arms and legs are some sorts of ovals and circles. :V;;;
I actually draw Gabe with a sort of hourglass figure, as you can see in the little diagram-thing on the right. Male torsos are often drawn with an inverted triangle shape, but for Gabe I like to add some waist-hip width difference, because THAT'S JUST HOW I DO THINGS. >:V

Then I start defining the body a little bit more. The first things I draw are usually the pecs (or the weird "singular pec shape"....), because they act as a guideline for the rest of the chest.
The arms are mostly intuition... the main thing is that the arm isn't like... a line... idk;;; I usually make it into these three random lumps for the shoulder, bicep, and forearm, and work from there.

This is the worst step, because I basically just wing it. 8D;;;; What helps me here is to use a smaller brush size than I did previously, and make the edges of the sketch more pointy than round....;;;
AND IF YOU'RE HAVING TROUBLE DECIDING WHAT MUSCLE GOES WHERE, reference pictures are your best friends!! 8D I didn't use a ref here because I wanted to see what I could do without one, but I was really unsure about the abs. So if those look weird, that's why. xD;

THEN YOU COVER UP THE MAN CHEST WITH A TATTOO SO NO ONE CAN SEE IT. Just kidding. Aha...;;; But yeah, there's some things on how I go about sketching and drawing guys. Hope you found this interesting, or even helpful! 8D And thanks for reading, as always. :)
