Art Enthusiasts

A oneshot of Sasori and Deidara and their love for all that is art. Unfortunately, they share different opinions about it. This story is most likely incorrect, but I liked the idea.+Mari+

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a cold and pale evening in the forests close to the western border of the Land of Fire. Two figures stood in an open field where the grounds were scattered with freshly uprooted trees.

Both figures were clad in the same high-collared black robes adorned with red clouds. One had short, maroon-colored hair and dark red eyes. The other had blonde, medium-length hair and a ponytail on top of his head. His right eye was green, and his left eye was covered by a blonde bang.

“Master Sasori, what are we doing here?” questioned the androgynous blonde to his redheaded comrade.

“Wouldn’t you know, Deidara?” said Sasori, looking earnestly upon Deidara.

“Of course…Master Sasori, un!” Deidara lied, slightly confused.

Sasori stood there with his back to his partner.

“Make sure there are no intruders or eavesdroppers.

Deidara nodded. He swept his long bang from his face, revealing his normally hidden left eye. He had no eyeball in that socket. Instead there was a small scope. Deidara then performed several swift hand signs and held out his hands. The palms of his hands had mouths on it that spit out several moderate amounts of smooth clay. The clay slowly started to form into a large bird of no specific type.

Deidara jumped unto the back of the gigantic bird and it rose into the sky. He searched the area with his scope, zooming in and out on every moving object that he encountered.

When he had finished, he reported back to Sasori, who was now sitting on a rock near the center of the field, staring at the darkening sky.

“There’s nobody around save some ninja monkeys, un. Considering the pile of fir trees around this site, I'd say that Kisame-sama was probably here a few weeks ago hacking away with that giant sword, un. Or someone who has the power to control earth..."

Deidara took a glance at Sasori. He didn't seem to be paying attention to him.

"Master Sasori?"

"...the stars, Deidara. The stars are forever. Just like good art..."

Deidara scrutinized the sky. Millions of tiny stars consumed the firmament and in the center hung a bright, corpulent moon. What was Sasori rambling about?

"Art is one of the greatest representations of life," continued Sasori, "and outstanding works...will never die."

Deidara shook his head in disagreement.

"You're wrong, Sasori-sensei, un."

Sasori looked greatly annoyed at this remark by Deidara.

The blond myrmidon sat next to Sasori with his hands behind his head and visible eye closed.

"Art is fleeting, just like everything else in this or any other world, un. For example, these stars will soon be interrupted by the Akatsuki in a few hours. Yes, art may be a beautiful thing, but it never lasts in people's mind, un."

There was a silence after this statement. The owls were hooting and the crickets were chirping together in a playful harmony.

"It does in one's heart," Sasori finally spoke, breaking the silence. "My puppets are beautifully crafted from the corpses of powerful shinobi and they are guaranteed to last as long as the strength of the former ninja's heart. My favorite, the hitokogutsu named Hiruko, is the most powerful and has lasted me a long time. None of my other 297 hitokogutsu are like it.

"However," continued Sasori, his voice rising, "You blow up your clay sculptures like bombs at a moment's notice! How do you expect someone to notice the beauty of your clay?"

Deidara opened his visible eye. He couldn't believe it... "Is this the only reason you brought me here, Sasori no Danna, un?"

Sasori stood up and looked to the forest.

"Yes... and no. Remember that we are on a mission, Deidara. When we reach the desert sands, I'll know we are close to our destination. I should put on a disguise before we reach there."

Deidara followed suit and smirked. "Un, we have to go to your hometown, the Village Hidden in the Sand, Sunagakure. And capture that jinchuriki who has the two-tailed raccoon dog, Ichibi no Shukaku."

Sasori looked away. "I never thought I would have to go back there again. After 20 years..."

Another long pause commenced.

"Well, after we grab this kozo, we can just leave, alright?" Deidara commented, trying to console his comrade.

"Alright... Deidara."

Chapter 2: Barnes and Noble

"This is a really big Barnes and Noble, isn't it?" Axel said in awe, mouth agape, upon entering the gigantic bookstore.

It was at least three floors high and decorated with colorful books in every directon. There was a small cafe at the bottom corner and the music section was on the second floor. And today the store happened to be very crowded with people wearing pointy midnight blue felt hats and holding long sticks crafted out of imitation wood. Makes you wonder what the occasion was...

"Yeah..." Reno replied, his eyes had glazed over. He held the appearance of someone who was going to pass out.

An idea popped in Axel's head. "Hey, Reno! I have a question. Where did you come from?"

"That's a good question..." Reno answered, still in awe from the sheer size of the bookstore. He wasn't there anymore...

"You mean you don't know where you came from?"

"Wait...what?" Reno turned to look at Axel. He had finally snapped back to reality from the fifth dimension.

"Like, where did you come from?" Axel repeated, exasperatedly waving his hand in front of the redhead with the baby blues.

"Oh. I came from 'Final Fantasy VII'."

"Cool. I came from 'Kingdom Hearts'. Got it memorized?" Axel tapped Reno on the temple with his pointer finger.

"What's that?" Reno questioned, head cocked to the side.

"Let me show you. Come with me." Axel took Reno's arm and dragged him into the Computer/Strategy Guide section of the store, which happened to be on the third floor.

What a pain... They went up two very long, very slow escalators packed with cape-wearing teenage fanatics. Incidently, the final copy of Harry Potter, "'Arry Pott-err and the Deth-ly Hah-lows", (as you pronounce in a British accent, whot whot), had just come out and people were flooding to the third floor. They had faux robes with Hogwarts insignia on 'em, and held stuffed Hedwig plushies close to their lanky bodies as if any passerby would bother to steal them.

...I guess that was what the occasion was about....

Fortunately, this section, the Computer/Strategy Guide section, was the only section of the store that was uninhabited.... What's up with that?

"There you go," Axel exclaimed. He pointed to a light blue book with Sora, Donald, Goofy, King Mickey, Kairi, and Roxas, and a big title reading, "Kingdom Hearts II." Axel picked it up and flipped through the book until he got to the "Allies" section. Then he handed it to Reno.

"Here's me at the bottom," Axel said, beaming with pride.

"Axel, it says here that you are an 'unexpected ally'. Why is that?"

"Oh...that. Well, that was because I, uh...tried to kill someone in the middle game, 'Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories'..."

Reno was silent.

"Yeah..."Axel said, scratching his head.

"So...Axel...what did you do in this?" Reno asked, referring to the strategy guide in his hands.

"I made things hard for everyone."

"Did you...kill...?" Reno asked hesitantly.

''No, I didn't kill anyone."

"Did you have any weapons?"

"Oh, yeah! I have these sweet weapons; they're called chakrams. You can really put a dent in someone with those. Plus, I can control fire and stuff."

"Really? How cool... All I have is a retractable nightstick..."

"Reno, what's Final Fantasy VII?"

Reno sighed. "It's really, really complicated to explain..."

Do you know how hard it is to explain the whole FF7 compilation? Reno knew this, so he decided on a solution. "But if we buy the movie in F.Y.E., we can go see it together. It's called 'Final Fantasy: Advent Children'. And if you still don't understand, we can just go on Wikipedia for two hours... I just don't know what the fuck 'Advent Children' means, though. But I'm in it and Cloud's in it--"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold your horses. Cloud's in it?"

"Yeah, and so is Tifa, and Sephiroth, and--"

"But I thought they were in my...."

Reno shook his head. "No, they were in Final Fantasy first.

"Wait. A MOVIE? YOU'RE A MOVIE STAR?!"

"No. I'm just in a movie. It's based on a...."(censor)

"Oh. Alright," Axel said, "Um, I don't have a movie based on my...." (censor)

"Why not?" Reno frowned.

"Don't know. Guess Tetsuya Nomura just doesn't got any ideas just yet. By the way, where's your guide for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children?"

"It's actually just for Final Fantasy VII. No 'Advent Children'. And it's right here," Reno said, picking it up and handing it to Axel. While Reno looked through the KH2 book, Axel looked through the Final Fantasy VII book with the picture of Leon and Rinoa on it. Axel smirked at the book; he was thinking of how the graphics of the... paled in comparison to his....

After a while, Reno looked up and said, "I'm getting bored, let's go to F.Y.E." Reno wasn't really bored, he was just getting annoyed by the constant geek speak of the rabid Harry Potter fans he could hear next to him.

Axel also looked up. He was riding the same boat as Reno. "Man, I've been waiting for you to say that for a long time. What took you so long? Let's go!" The redheads dropped their books on the floor to leave the Barnes and Noble for F.Y.E.

A passerby employee, also wearing a pointed hat, slipped on the laminated books and looked up to yell at the two. "Learn to pick up your fucking books!" he said angrily.

But the two were long gone by now.

Look to the Sky *spoiler*

Look To the Sky

You are the boy with cloud envy
Hoping and wishing to fly freely
like a cloud
Look to the sky;
See the clouds float by.

You are the one they call Shikamaru
But in spite of your genius, you like to
Play Go in Shogi and watch the stars
Wanting to live far
Like a star
Near Mars
Hoping to float
Like a boat
Or a cloud in the sky;
Just floating by.
Shikamaru, look to the sky.

The only reason you wanted to be a ninja was
So you could do anything you wanted because
You didn't want people to tell you
What to do, Shikamaru.

You are the lazy one;
You call yourself a "coward".
The first to run, the first to be gone.

One day, Shikamaru you hope to have a son
and a daughter and get married; toward
Your late years, your face will wrinkle and sag
But you'll only reply with, "What a drag...."

But right now, Shikamaru,
You have the Shadow Possession Jutsu.
And only you possess this talent;
And only your family has the patent
For this move, so be content.

In this jutsu, you strike with the shadow;
Grab their heels, pull them in like a reel;
Make them swallow and wallow
In their fears.
They cry heavy tears
Of woe, until you let them go;
For you, Shikamaru, are a merciful soul.

Later on, dear Asuma Sarutobi will die,
But before you utter a single cry,
You will take his last cigarrette and smoke it
In honor of his death, life, valor, and wit.

Shikamaru, when you get older
You will be faster, wiser, and bolder.
In two and a half years, you'll be fifteen
And you will no longer be in-between.
You will rise above the rest
And be the very best
And be able to wear the Konoha vest.

In the battle for the fall of Konohagakure,
You, with your heart being courageous and pure,
Will create a team with Naruto, Choji, and others;
People who you have considered your brothers.
You will fight for your village,
You will fight for your right,
You will fight for the restoration of Konoha's might.

After the battle is won,
You'll sit there, looking at the sun.
Wanting to float like a cloud;
Getting away from what is loud,
Floating as free as a cloud should be
Living each day quietly.

So, Shikamaru, don't be shy;
Fly high and look to the sky.
