4.5 Million Animals Saved From Testing Labs
HSI today welcomed a response from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to a request for clarification regarding safety testing requirements under the EU’s REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) regulation, which promises to spare approximately 4.5 million animals from suffering and death in chemical-poisoning tests.

Support for Farm Animals in India
Animal lovers from south India, including representatives from NGOs focused on animal protection, rural development, and the environment, were inspired to take action on behalf of farm animals through a workshop hosted by Humane Society International (HSI) and the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations (FIAPO) from August 29 to August 30 in Bangalore, India. Forty-six individuals turned out for this two-day educational and capacity building event, where attendees began planning collaborative efforts to advocate for farmed animals in their communities.

Canadian Government Refuses to Stop Seal Hunt and Trading Cat and Dog Fur
Humane Society International/Canada strongly disputes statements contained in an internal memo to Agriculture Canada, released by Canadian Press yesterday. In it, government officials urge Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz not to follow the United States and European Union in banning cat and dog fur imports, arguing that such an action could undermine Canada's case against nations that have prohibited seal product trade.

Note: The last article is, by no means, a negative stereotype against Canada and its citizens. Click to read the article and you will see that the director of Humane Society International/Canada speaks and says that most of Canada wants to stop it, just the government won't listen.
