Arrival

Terran sat on a windowsill reading
the latest book by one of his favorite scholars,
his foot tapping the air ever so slightly. His
ears picked up sounds of Arlette's return before
she had even entered the yard, and so he was
up and at the door when she opened it. He smiled
at her, taking one of the baskets of produce she
was carrying to help put things away.

Arlette had heard Terran move to the
door, and so was already holding the basket out
as she stepped inside. It felt good to be out of
the heat and inside the cool home made of stone.
They would use their magic to change the material
every winter, so that their home would be warmer.
She shook her head at herself, then followed
Terran to the pantry.
