FAQ for Tutorial Depot

New to Tutorial depot? Can't find what you need? Have questions about what you would need? This is the place to go than! Hopefully I'll update it as it gets bigger. Until then, Feel free to ask anything here!

Q. Why a World for Tutorials?
I felt it was a lot better than posting images up on how to do things in photoshop, or drawing tutorials that had more text than anything. Really, there's no "real" place to put up a tutorial (aside maybe from the comics/manga section) And it would be a nice place for more than one artist to post their ideas and help in one place where it was easy and organizable as opposed to all over the place.
Q. How do I get photoshop?
Photoshop is a paid program available through both purchase at a store, or purchase from downloading. You CAN however download a 30 day free trial. Wacom tablets will sometimes be bundled with a version of photoshop called "photoshop elements" that's free. (Elements by itself isn't though)
Q. What is a tablet?
A computer tablet is a flat plastic sensor board that you can plug into your computer through a USB port. This sensor board can detect a special tablet pen that comes with it and can tell how much pressure you are applying to the pad allowing you to draw more naturally. It can even detect the pen hovering over the sensor pad to move the cursor around just like you would with a mouse.
Q. What kind of tablet does whtdragon use/have?
I have a Wacom Graphire3 tablet. It came with photoshop elements 2 and a few other programs and it's been wonderful. They now have a Graphire4 out that comes with photoshop elements 3 at a decent price with what all you get for it. I highly suggest it if you want a good budget tablet.
Q. Are there any alternatives to photoshop?
Yes Quite a few actually.
*gimp is a free alternative, but some people don't like it.
*Open Canvas has a version that's free, although it can be a bit buggy and not quite as versatile as it's newer counterparts.(which are programs you have to pay for) A cool feature about it is that the version is the only one that allowed you to share a canvas with up to three other people over the internet. here is the download for Open Canvas 1.1
*Pixia is one that Cosmic Sailor would suggest. I don't know much about it, other than it has similar features to photoshop, and I can't seem to download from the site O_o'
