My experience comes more from reading than from writing, the only writing I get in that isn't for school is rpging over at OtakuBoards. And only being slightly familiar with Dr. Who puts me at an even bigger disadvantage.
I can't really give you any good advice, I'd say keep writing until it starts to feel right. Good luck with it, though. I'm sure it will turn out fine.
Oh fun! A Dr. Who fan fiction. ^_^ I'm always meaning to get around to reading some of those and I never do. XP Anyway, other's here have already given good advice, checking out other sources for examples and another good idea?
Write it. Sometimes just getting started is enough to help you start to get it down. I mean that Silver One I'm posting? I wrote that three years ago and that's probably the second or third revision and I'll probably do so again, revise it that is. >_> I'm always realizing that I could have done more than what I originally did. Heh.
Also, in answer to you and Rach in regards to whether or not I have any of the books? I can recall reading some, but I can't remember if I have anything other than some of the bigger fact books on the series. :p Thanks to you two, I'm going to have to go and drag out my Dr. Who stuff and look now. XD

Hai! Hai! Hai! (^o^)/ I got a suggestion! It might not be much, but you said that saying a suggestion is really important. ^^ So here it is. XD
Tell me everything you have planned for the story. ^^ I did that once with my Net Girls story. I told Fortuna-chan everything I had planned in an MSN conversation. It really helped me find plot holes and parts that needed imporovement. Coz actually talking to someone in real time is much different to writing something out and sending it to them. And you know I'll ask a lot of questions! So who knows, out of all the useless questions, one might be really good. ^.~
See you later Senpai. X3 Good luck with everything! Have fun!
Don't feel bad. Getting out of the gate is the hardest part. After you get started you'll be trotting through your story.
I have the same problem. I have ideas and good intentions to write, but have a hard time getting it down or organized, to where I feel comfortable and satisfied with it.
Well, I think you already know what you’re going to write and how you want it to sound. I think you gotta take a deep breath and sit back a bit, and it will come to you. I know that sounds easier said than done, but if you concentrate on relaxing for a short time, little by little sentences will start to form. Then you will have something to work with. From personal experience, I find when I start to feel frustrated from no progress and start to overly-concentrate on what to write, it only brings stress. Though when I sit back and just let my thoughts unfold without no tight time limit, it comes to me.
I hope you will be able to start your story and feel satisfied with it. I think you will be able to soon.
Part of mmy motivation to write these stories is to get more classic adventure plots out there in the DW fanfiction circle. I began to get bored of seeing Doctor/Rose romance taking up the majority of stories since the new series came along.
Yeah, Tom Baker is the definitive Doctor for many, especially American fans. And I would be only so lucky if I had a girlfriend who was already a fan, I envy you =P I still have the majority of my collection on VHS because anime has put me behind on classic series DVDs.
Ah I see. Heh, fan fictions of Dr. Who. I’ve never read any, though considering the nature of the series, that’s something one could have a lot of fun with.
As for the classics, I watched a few as I was growing up. Tom Baker definitely being one of them. I’ve probably seen more with him than any other doctor. I’ve been watching a lot more though since my girlfriend is quite the Dr. Who fan and has a lot of it on VHS.
I should ask her if she has any of the books. Knowing her, she probably does. Heh.

Well, if I can't figure out any other way I might give that a try. I envisioned the first scene as a bit of a disjointed flashback. It's meant to be rather vague, because it's significance won't be revealed until later in the story.
I'm trying to write the first of several Doctor Who fanfics that I've had running around in my head for ages.
Yeah, I've got some well-written fanfics by other authors saved and printed out, I'll read some of them too. Always helps to see the products of other amature authors who write very professionally.
Ah good, I like to hear that you've watched some of the classics ^^ I grew up watching it on PBS from the age of 4, I can still remember the first time I ever saw it and what story it was, "The Face of Evil" with Tom Baker. You should watch the newer ones with David Tennant, he's much better than Eccleston (although I do like him too). New season starts in April, can't wait!
I have tons of books, ranging from novelizations of classic TV stories to novels from the 90s to a few years ago. Heh, definitely a lot of potential help material.
That's what I do... at least for the rpg's I'm in at OB, I'll write what I can see and come back to the rest later. So what exactly are you writing?
Hmmm, and yeah, reading always helps, I often pick up on what other members write as well as established authors. It helps when you can find something similar to what you are trying to write, just for that example. I think. XP
As for Dr. Who. Though I've watched quite a bit of the older series and started on the first season with the newer doctor... [not the current one, the guy before] I've never actually read any of the books. I don't even recall if I've ever seen any.
Good luck with the story, I so am sorry I can't give you advice though. Last time I gave someone advice it backfired on them and they banned me from giving advice to anyone.
I think the Doctor Who books will help out some. Reading and looking at other things help spark my creativity skills.
