Welcome to my little corner of The Otaku!

Let me introduce myself. I sign my art as "Kasey-chan", so feel free to call me that. My interest in drawing started when my sister and I went down to the book store and we discovered How-To-Draw-Anime books. It took off from there.
When I'm not scribbling away I am pursuing work in theatrical properties, spending way too much time on Netflix, watching too much TV, and wishing radioactive waste really did give people superpowers.

Here's some of my favorite things :).

Anime: Miyazaki's works, Tokyo Godfathers, Astro Boy (2003)
Manga: Rurouni Kenshin and Hana Kimi
American Cartoons: Batman: The Animated Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Venture Brothers, Gravity Falls, Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated
TV Shows: Merlin (BBC), Firefly, Mystery Science Theater 3000
Movies: The Secret of Kells, The Adventures of Tintin, X-Men: First Class, The Iron Giant, Muppet Treasure Island, Treasure Planet, RoboGeisha, Sharktopus
Books: Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey,Jane Eyre
Colors: Green!
Superheroes: Batman and Spiderman

I'm pretty much up for anything except yaoi/yuri. PM me .

Today is a Good Day for Being Cold

Not incredibly used to regular blogging on this site, but since I am on and have time I thought I'd do a quick life update. Currently I am in New York state visiting a friend. No, not NYC, just New York. That is a-okay by me, being based near DC at the moment, I really look forward to getting a break from the hustle and bustle.
Right now I'm working on something to post. Once I get back to a scanner I will start photoshopping and have that up hopefully within the next week :).
Also I saw the Lego movie, which was actually insanely enjoyable. I liked it better than Frozen, which given all the hype about it, is saying something I suppose. However my feelings on Frozen are a bit different than a lot of people, but perhaps thats more of a negative topic. In the positive, The Lego Movie is super special awesome. You should see it.
Still working, there's a plus.
Yay.
Life.
and don't exactly agree with the pic, but it's cute and Batman was one of the most enjoyable things about that film :P

Hang on a Second. . .

I was featured?! I just read that my one post from Failtastick Fandoms was featured back in October. . . Whhhhyyyyyy wasn't I messaged about that?! Haha Whhyyy did I just read that now. Feeling pretty dumb, but still kind of happy :).
Also, I posted more art again today FINALLY. I feel like "FINALLY!" should be my motto for this site *sigh*. I've been so terribly busy with work this year and haven't had much time at all to do art on the side. But I when I have a few hours and inspiration I do it whenever I can. I also have been slowly but surely working on my comic. Don't hold your breath for that one. With the art style I have in mind for it, it's gonna take a looong time for me to actually have something. However, it's nice to be working on it.
So some quick life updates, work is very time consuming, I got a summer job which is super special awesome, and my sister has officially moved to Japan to teach English over there. All very big life changes, but life is still good and I am looking forward to not being an intern anymore so I can have enough money to eat real food again. Yay!
Well I hope to get around to people and maybe to a post in Failtastick Fandoms as a super late celebration. Maybe tomorrow. Until then, have a chuckle through this HI-larious meme.

In Production

I am in the process of the Pay it Forward challenge requests, which I am super excited about :). I have one done already and am hopefully going to start the second one tonight. Sadly, none of these will be Photoshopped, so I hope everyone is okay with traditional art. It's been a fair amount of time since I broke out the colored pencils, so I hope all turns out well! I was so happy to see Reenigrl's The Cat Returns fan art that she made for me for the Pay it Forward challenge. Please take a look, it's certainly worth a view: http://www.theotaku.com/fanart/view/387652
In other news, we are going into another tech week, which may kill me, but I'm not going down without a fight. Netflix and pie is really all I need to keep me going and I will have that.
So in the meantime I'll be checking up on the new arts and hopefully getting another post up in Failtastick Fandoms.
I hope you all are having a lovely evening :). Enjoy this adorable reptile.

Getting Down With My Bad Self Saturday

Yesterday I stole my mom's 70's funk music. That probably qualifies me as a lame person, but I just can't resist my inner groove. Plus walking around the house all funky-like is much more fun than regular walking :).
In other news, I submitted my second and final mascot for that contest. It looks like I'm not the only one who procrastinated until the last day. The number of submissions went from around 24 to 45 in the past two days haha. I wish good luck to all the entrees, honestly there are some awesome mascots on there! Besides the mascot contest I hope to at least get started on this one picture I drew this past week. It involves some detailed dragons (for me anyway, I draw them once in many many moons so I'm not exactly a dragon master), so you may not see them for a while. But hopefully they will be posted soon enough.
In life news, it's my cousin's wedding tomorrow, and I am super stoked! My cousins and I have always had a brother sister relationship and have shared a lot of good memories together. Everyone will be there, which is becoming a rarer occurrence, so I'm excited to spend the special day with everyone there.
Also I love yard sales. So much.
And here's a pic. 3rd episode of Korra apparently premiered today so this is in honor of that. I missed it this morning but I hope to catch it later in the day. And Toph is awesome :).

New Years

Wow! What a busy year 2011 has been! I hope all of you have had a wonderful year :). Two of my resolutions are to continue drawing after I graduate, despite what I'll end up doing or where I will go and to at least start a fan comic. I already have the idea, I just need to get a plot and a script down. I hope to work on it over winter term this year, since all I will be doing is our school's musical. Hopefully, I can submit art to a couple contests I've been keeping my eye on as well :). Over all, I hope that it will be a more active year on theotaku and be a better friend to the awesome people who actually keep up with my posts :p.
Also, I got promoted! I'm an Otaku Eternal now :), which means I can apparently create my own title. I'm thinking of a good one, any suggestions?
Merry Belated Christmas and a Happy New Year to all you awesome otakus. Continue to have fun otaku-ing!

(the world is supposed to end in 2012 after all :P)
