Welcome to my little corner of The Otaku!

Let me introduce myself. I sign my art as "Kasey-chan", so feel free to call me that. My interest in drawing started when my sister and I went down to the book store and we discovered How-To-Draw-Anime books. It took off from there.
When I'm not scribbling away I am pursuing work in theatrical properties, spending way too much time on Netflix, watching too much TV, and wishing radioactive waste really did give people superpowers.

Here's some of my favorite things :).

Anime: Miyazaki's works, Tokyo Godfathers, Astro Boy (2003)
Manga: Rurouni Kenshin and Hana Kimi
American Cartoons: Batman: The Animated Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Venture Brothers, Gravity Falls, Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated
TV Shows: Merlin (BBC), Firefly, Mystery Science Theater 3000
Movies: The Secret of Kells, The Adventures of Tintin, X-Men: First Class, The Iron Giant, Muppet Treasure Island, Treasure Planet, RoboGeisha, Sharktopus
Books: Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey,Jane Eyre
Colors: Green!
Superheroes: Batman and Spiderman

Getting Down With My Bad Self Saturday

Yesterday I stole my mom's 70's funk music. That probably qualifies me as a lame person, but I just can't resist my inner groove. Plus walking around the house all funky-like is much more fun than regular walking :).
In other news, I submitted my second and final mascot for that contest. It looks like I'm not the only one who procrastinated until the last day. The number of submissions went from around 24 to 45 in the past two days haha. I wish good luck to all the entrees, honestly there are some awesome mascots on there! Besides the mascot contest I hope to at least get started on this one picture I drew this past week. It involves some detailed dragons (for me anyway, I draw them once in many many moons so I'm not exactly a dragon master), so you may not see them for a while. But hopefully they will be posted soon enough.
In life news, it's my cousin's wedding tomorrow, and I am super stoked! My cousins and I have always had a brother sister relationship and have shared a lot of good memories together. Everyone will be there, which is becoming a rarer occurrence, so I'm excited to spend the special day with everyone there.
Also I love yard sales. So much.
And here's a pic. 3rd episode of Korra apparently premiered today so this is in honor of that. I missed it this morning but I hope to catch it later in the day. And Toph is awesome :).

Impatience is my Anti-Virtue

I wouldn't call myself a patient person, it's a flaw I've realized and am working on. But, PLEASE Legend of Korra, come out with episodes faster! Or somebody leak them out sooner. I demand my awesome bending-packed children's television program! Once I see more of the series and get a better feel for the characters, I'll hopefully be posting some fan art. But that won't happen until more comes out *hint hint Nickelodean*
Also I just realized that I pronounce it "Nickelonean" and not "dean". I've been doing that ever since I learned about that channel. Wow.
So other things that need to come out are Merlin Series 5, The Avengers, The Hobbit, and that stupid Artemis Fowl movie that they've needed to make for like 10 yrs now! Patience! Yargh!
And that concludes my rant.
So in other news the weather is lovely and I don't feel like doing anything :). Spring is great!
So here's the image of the day. Did anyone ever watch this movie and get as freaked out as I did?!

life

I've been doing props for my college's upcoming spring show because my senioritis kept me from seriously auditioning. Plus I really like doing props, even though it's turning out to be more time intensive than I had thought. Today I made a ham out of my new favorite thing, Model Magic. It's this play-doughy stuff that dries. Awesome for food props. I also went shopping. Every time I shop for props I'm always the winner of the "Person With the Most Random Items in her Bag" Award :P.
I've also been watching Dark Shadows on Netflix in my spare time. Haha what a great-awful show :). I like to play the "Spot the Film Crew" game. You can always catch them or their shadow at least once in every episode. The story's not bad either, at least it's getting more interesting. I'm beginning to get excited for the movie that's coming out with Johnny Depp.
Other than that not much else is going on. Trying to enjoy these last few weeks of my college career. AHH LIFE AHHHH! Wouldn't that be awesome if I knew what I was doing with my life? Yep. It totally would.

This picture will just have to fill the awesome void for now.

Keep Me off the Cart Because I'm not yet Dead

The title is a Spamalot reference in case anyone was dying to know.
So I'm trying to be a little more active on this site and keep up with everyone more. I've been on twice in like 4 days so that's a start, right? I'm hoping to get a few more art pieces up as well, particularly for the Shonen Beat/Jump and the mascot challenges. :).
Life is life. I'm job searching for both summer and next year, and the theaters I have applied too have at least all contacted me, which is positive. Still no definite offers yet, but I'm glad the fish are biting.
I recently discovered Dark Shadows thanks to my newfound love, Netflix. Oh Netflix, how I adore you! Where else can I find such cinematic wonders as Two Headed Shark Attack, Dragon Crusaders, and SSSSSSS (yep thats actually a legit title). Seriously though, Netflix does have some awesome stuff like The Secret of Kells, Eerie Indiana, and Merlin. Although I watch Netflix instead of drawing in my downtime nowadays. I need to combine the two. The problem is finding a way of drawing while also not missing any important bits of the shows, like the true identity of that mysterious English cousin who randomly shows up on the mansion doorstep.
I am excited for Easter. Easter egg painting is always a big sha-bing with my dad's side of the family. It'll be nice to have some down time :).
And that's it. Here's a pic. when my toilet breaks down, I wish this was my problem.

New Years

Wow! What a busy year 2011 has been! I hope all of you have had a wonderful year :). Two of my resolutions are to continue drawing after I graduate, despite what I'll end up doing or where I will go and to at least start a fan comic. I already have the idea, I just need to get a plot and a script down. I hope to work on it over winter term this year, since all I will be doing is our school's musical. Hopefully, I can submit art to a couple contests I've been keeping my eye on as well :). Over all, I hope that it will be a more active year on theotaku and be a better friend to the awesome people who actually keep up with my posts :p.
Also, I got promoted! I'm an Otaku Eternal now :), which means I can apparently create my own title. I'm thinking of a good one, any suggestions?
Merry Belated Christmas and a Happy New Year to all you awesome otakus. Continue to have fun otaku-ing!

(the world is supposed to end in 2012 after all :P)
