I agree that for this kind of movie, the strange factor is key. *nodnodnod* From what I remember, there was just a lot of Denzel Washington running around in strangely lit areas and less creepy (unless Denzel Washington running around in strangely lit areas is creepy to you).

I have not seen the remake, but from what I am reading about it, it does not seem as strange as the original, which is a huge part of its appeal (for me, anyway lol).
I remember beginning to watch the remake of this with my uncle and going "whaa...?" I don't know if it was the fact it was a remake or what. Satirizing McCarthyesque paranoia is fine by me.
