The Stars Are Brighter At Midnight Chapter 1:Meeting Shouto

“Goodnight” my father whispered as he closed the door. He had his blue satin night cap slouched over one eye and gave out a yawn. He wore his satin blue pajamas to match the blue cap draped over his oily black hair that was slicked back against his olive skinned face. His blue eyes seemed to draw you in on his seven foot looming figure with salmon pink cheeks that stretched against his face.
My father was head of an important business and I had to come along with him on most of his trips because there was no one to watch me. I had to go to sleep at 8:00 pm so I could get up in time for his 5:00 am meetings but I usually planned otherwise.
When I was sure he had crept into a deep slumber I crept out of my satin sheeted bed and tossed my blonde hair in a pony tail. I took out the trope made out of old worn out clothes tied together in complicated, strong knots.
I threw the chain out of my engraved window and started to climb down. I slipped halfway down and fell into a soft flower bed in my garden with a loud thunk and quickly looked around to see if I woke my dad up. His snoring still filled the air, undisturbed. I sighed in relief. I slowly opened the ancient metal frame gate with its floral designs. It opened with a soft creek and I crept passed it silently.
I swiftly ran across the meadow behind my house. I could feel the soft grass tickle the toes that have been kept crammed in my high heels for too long. A smile played on my face as I smelt the fresh water of the lake that wasn’t too far from here now. My steps quickened. I could see the lilies and teasels that surrounded the Crystal Lake.
They tickled my sore feet and I jumped up a ledge by the lake. The lake was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
From a height the lake would look like a crystal surrounded by small pearls, shimmering in the moonlight. The wind played through the flowers and the enclosed area was pretty quiet. I was completely surrounded by cliff walls and tall oak trees. The silence was bliss compared to the usual chatter of business men and women in my ears. I started to climb up the cliff a small hole in the side with a ledge that was covered in roses to hide it from sight. I slithered through the small opening in the thorny mess. I smiled as the familiar place came to me.
There was a perfect view of the sky and there was now a visible hole in the roses that showed the beautiful lake basking in the moon. Something seemed different though…..I heard a small rustle in the back of the dark exposed hole.
I crawled over to find a boy with shimmering black hair and although his clothes were ragged, he seemed perfect. His hands were behind his head as he was laid against the back rock on a pile of soft autumn leaves. He was staring at the blurred stars in the sky until he heard me coming and he looked at me. “Hello” I muttered. “Why are you here?” This was the area I laid down to watch the stars reflect in the lake and waited for midnight when the stars would be clear and bright against the darkened sky.
“Hi, shouldn’t you give your name before asking questions?” the boy answered looking into my eyes with his hazel eyes that seemed to be liquid. “
Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot my manners.” I said taken aback. “I’m Momoka, and you are?”
“Shouto” He sighed.”I’m here to watch the stars, why else? Weren’t you here for the same reason?”
“Yes…” I tried to word my response carefully. “But I thought this was some place special that no one else knew about.”
He snickered. “And you don’t think anyone else deserves to see the sights here?”
“Yes, no, argh! Stop confusing me!” I spluttered at him.He chuckled.
“Well I’m sorry if you can’t comprehend your actions” He laughed at me.
I growled and laid down next to him in defeat. The stars were pretty clear, I hadn’t realized how much time had passed, it was a little pass midnight and there were sparkles of light everywhere from the stars reflected in the crystal lake.
I stared in awe at the beauty, I had seen it so many times before but still it was so beautiful!
I sighed knowing that I have to go back soon so I wouldn’t be sleeping through the meetings and school. I got up and I heard my knees creek as I climbed back off the cliff.
“Leaving already?” Shouto asked as I hopped through the trees.
“I have to be ready for tomorrows schedule!’ I called to him. He didn’t answer.
I retook the path and climbed back into my room. I threw the rope in my draw and in a flash off color I had covered myself in my satin silk sheets and fell into a slumber.
For some reason all I could think about was that mysterious boy……
