Time to Hide

Here's the rest of my post. I'm in so much pain right now. I slipped on my tiled floor and bruised like every part of my body. My foot is killing me because I bruised the bottom of it badly and my shoulder.

I decided to put on a dark purple and black dress I’d found in the bottom of my suitcase. I’d forgotten I’d packed it. Actually, I’m not sure why I packed it. I was listening to an Ellie Goulding song on my phone while I finished getting ready. I’d never been to a club before so I didn’t know what to expect. I was half excited and half terrified. I found a pair of strappy black heels and slid them on my feet. I really detested heels. I only owned two pairs for reasons. I was guaranteed to trip at least twice tonight.
I really wish I could see my own reflection. I guess turning human for a little bit won’t hurt. I’ll just turn back when I finish my hair. It’s amazing most vampires don’t look like they rolled out of a back alley dumpster. I closed my eyes and concentrated as I shifted into my human form. I blinked my eyes a little bit as I felt my features change. I looked into the mirror as my body appeared, trying to see if I had changed anymore. I didn’t look any older so that was good.
I quickly grabbed my curling iron to curl my hair. The amount of heat next to my face was scaring me so I tried to move quickly. I was always sure I was going to burn myself eventually. When I finished my hair, I unplugged the curling iron and went back into my room. I grabbed my purse with my I.D. and turned off the lights as I left. I forgot to change back.
Who knows how long I was sitting in the hallway before Aerith decided to smack my face repeatedly. I awoke with a start and gasped. Oh no. I quickly pulled out my room key and ran back into my room to check the damage. I stretched my skin out a little bit trying to spot a wrinkle or two. Phew, I’m okay. I must not have been out that long.
“What’s the matter?” Aerith asked as she walked into the bathroom.
“I passed out in my human form. It makes me age.” I explained. “Do I look any older?”
“Nooo….” Aerith dragged out.
“Are you just saying that?” I asked narrowing my eyes.
“You look the same, trust me.” She smiled.
“Are you coming to the club?” I asked walking towards the door again.
“Yes. I can’t stay very long though. I need all my recommended sleep hours.”
“Understandable.” I nodded. “I can stay up forever. I just sleep because it gets boring.” We walked down to the lobby to meet up with the others. She wandered off after a few minutes to talk to some of the other club members.
Everyone looked so nice tonight. I see a lot of cute clothes. I peered around as we waited in line to show our I.D.s.” There was some commotion with Violette up ahead. I wonder what was wrong. Eventually then all got in, or rushed in, and the rest of us entered with no problem. If I was still human, I would’ve gotten a seizure from these strobe lights and died. I held my hand up over my eyes.
“What in the world?” I looked around but all I could see was people, dancing, and lights. I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. I tried to stay with the group but we got separated fast. I mean, it’s not like we were a hard bunch to miss. I bumped into some guy who reeked of alcohol. I pinched my nose together and tried to stay along the wall.
I found myself in a corner near the DJ table. I felt someone’s hand on my shoulder. I turned and did a roundhouse kick knocking them across the floor. I have fast reflexes. I ran over to the person I’d almost killed and started poking them in the face.
“Are you alright?!” I yelled over the noise.
“What?!” They shouted back, trying to sit up. “I think you broke my ribs.”
“I’m sorry about that.” I yelled. I’ll have a sore throat tomorrow. “Were you trying to rob me?”
“I just wanted to ask you to dance.” He said.
“I’ll decline.” I stood back up and gave him the “I’m watching you” signal. He rushed off to the other side of the club.
I walked back over to the DJ table and hid behind the counter. The DJ looked down confused.
“Ma’am?” He asked. “Would you mind moving?”
“SHH! I’m hiding.” I said. “Do you mind turning the music down a little?” Loud music is not good for someone who has bionic hearing.
“Well go hide somewhere else!”
“Oh come on! I’m not bothering you!” I shouted at him.
“You got five seconds!” He said and pointed.
“Don’t point your finger at me!” I pointed my finger at him as I got up. “How’s it feel now!” I laughed.
I should’ve stayed in my hotel room. I crossed my arms and stood at the base of the DJ table. I heard the beginning of a song I liked by Swedish House Mafia. I couldn’t resist the urge to dance. I ran back up to the DJ table. “Here, watch my purse!” I threw it down next to him and took off towards the dance floor before he could say something.
I was dancing next to people I didn’t know. People who needed to wear deodorant and get some breath mints, but I didn’t care. This wasn’t too bad. I was starting to move on my own, finally feeling free. You know the stereotype about vampires only looking at humans and seeing food, it was starting to happen. I have to resist the urge to feed. I guess those lights really were messing up my head because when I came back standing over a slumped person in the middle of the dance floor with blood dripping down my mouth. I quickly glanced around expecting the people around me to stake me or gang up on me. I couldn’t find the club members anywhere. I think everyone was too drunk to realize what had happened so I dashed into the bathroom as quick as I could. I grabbed a wad of paper towels from the wall and became scrubbing off my face. I scrubbed my mouth out too. I didn’t want germs from some stranger. I swished water around in my mouth about ten times. I looked down at my dress, but it wasn’t stained, thank goodness.
I took a few deep breaths to gain control of myself and leaned over the sink. What was wrong with me? I can’t believe I did that. But it tasted so good.
My legs collapsed underneath me and my fangs retracted as I slid down on the floor. I didn’t care how germy the floor was or if I had just sat in a puddle. I couldn’t return to being a monster. I guess I better go check and see if my victim was still alive. I crawled over to the door just as someone was opening it so I got smacked in the head hard. I rolled over on my side as two girls walked into the bathroom shrieking. They were speaking in German, wondering if I was okay.
“I’m…o-okay.” I saw shakily. I managed to get to my feet and brushed myself off. “Gut.”
They gave a sigh of relief and rushed off to the mirrors to fix their makeup.
I pushed open the door and ran my hand along the wall, following the beat of the music. It notes vibrating through my body, stronger with every step I took. I wandered back to the middle of the dance floor but the person I fed from was gone. I wasn’t even sure what he looked like. At least that meant he survived. I remembered I’d left my purse at the DJ table and pushed my way through the crowd to get back to the front. I climbed the little bit of steps that led to the top and grabbed my purse from under the table. I sat down with my back against the table and closed my eyes.
The DJ snapped his headphones off and looked down at me. “Do I need to hire security guards for myself?” He sighed. “Whatever. You’re not going to listen to me anyway. Just don’t get in my way.”
I flipped open my eyelids and stared up at him.
“Why are your eyes red? Are those contacts?” He asked.
“No.” I shook my head. “I’m a vampire.”
“That’s funny, I thought you said vampire.” He started to laugh then stopped.
“I was serious.” I said. “I’m just going to rest here for a few minutes, and then I’ll be on my way.” I shut my eyes again. “Thanks for watching my purse.”
He didn’t believe me. “Someone’s had too much to drink.” He started to put his headphones back on.
“I don’t drink.” I said.

I sat there for another hour. I must’ve fallen asleep or something. I stood up and looked around for the club members. I spotted them by the door staggering out. Looks like they had fun. I pulled fifteen euros out of my purse and handed them to the DJ. “Thanks for letting me hide here.”
“Anytime!” He slid the money in his pocket.
I hurried through the club to catch them going out the door. Everyone looked a mess. Well, I guess you have to have at least one sober person in the group. This was going to be a long week.
